Here is the latest weather bulletin issued by the Hong Kong Observatory.

The northeast monsoon is affecting Guangdong.

At 3 a.m., the tropical depression over the Luzon Strait was centred about 170 kilometres south-southwest of Gaoxiong. It is forecast to move west or west-southwest at about 14 kilometres per hour across the vicinity of the Luzon Strait and enter the northern part of the South China Sea.

Weather forecast for today

Mainly fine but hazy. Hot during the day. Temperatures will range between 25 and 32 degrees. Light to moderate northeasterly winds.

Outlook : Windy with a few squally showers in the following couple of days.

    Weather information for south China coastal waters issued by the Hong Kong Observatory at 3:30 a.m. on 11 September 2018

    Warnings:
    Gale force winds in Nan'ao. Strong winds in Shanwei, south of Hong Kong and Shangchuan Dao.

    Weather Situation:
    The northeast monsoon is affecting the south China coastal waters.

    At 3 a.m., the tropical depression over the Luzon Strait with maximum sustained winds of about 55 kilometres per hour near its centre was located at 21.2 degrees north, 119.8 degrees east. It is forecast to move west or west-southwest at about 14 kilometres per hour across the vicinity of the Luzon Strait and enter the northern part of the South China Sea.

    Northeast force 4 to 5.
    A few rain patches. Some haze.
    Moderate seas.

    Nan'ao:
    North to northeast force 6 to 7, becoming cyclonic force 7 to 8 later.

    Shanwei:
    North to northeast force 6 to 7.

    Tropical Cyclone Warning

    At 101800 UTC, the tropical depression over the Luzon Strait with central pressure 1000 hectopascals was centred within 90 nautical miles of two one point three degrees north (21.3 N) one two zero point zero degrees east (120.0 E) and is forecast to move west or west-southwest at about 8 knots for the next 24 hours.

    Maximum winds near the centre are estimated to be 30 knots.

    Radius of over 2 metre waves 60 nautical miles.

    One one six point seven degrees east (116.7 E)
    Maximum winds 40 knots.

    The Hong Kong Observatory's tropical cyclone warnings for shipping are issued about one and a half hours after the time of observation. They incorporate additional information derived from surface and upper-air data and may therefore be slightly different from the real-time satellite or radar-based positions given in the hourly bulletins for public.

    While the forecast positions and track indicate the most likely future path of the tropical cyclone, they may deviate from the actual path taken by the storm.
