The weather is generally fine over Guangdong.

At 8 a.m., the tropical depression over the Luzon Strait was centred about 200 kilometres east of Dongsha. It is forecast to move west or west-southwest at about 14 kilometres per hour entering the northern part of the South China Sea.

Mainly fine but hazy. Hot during the day with a maximum temperature of about 32 degrees. Light to moderate northerly winds.

Outlook : Windy with a few squally showers in the next couple of days.

    Weather information for south China coastal waters issued by the Hong Kong Observatory at 9:30 a.m. on 11 September 2018

    Warnings:
    Gale force winds in Nan'ao and Shanwei. Strong winds in south of Hong Kong and Shangchuan Dao.

    Weather Situation:
    The tropical depression over the Luzon Strait has intensified into a tropical storm and was named Barijat. At 9 a.m., Barijat with maximum sustained winds of about 65 kilometres per hour near its centre was located at 20.8 degrees north, 118.5 degrees east. It is forecast to move west at about 14 kilometres per hour across the northern part of the South China Sea.

    Hong Kong Adjacent Waters:
    North force 4, becoming force 5 later.
    Some haze. Scattered squally showers and thunderstorms later.
    Moderate seas.

    Nan'ao:
    North to northeast force 6 to 7, becoming cyclonic force 7 to 8.
    Frequent heavy squally showers and thunderstorms.
    Rough to very rough seas.

    Shanwei:
    North to northeast force 6 to 7, becoming cyclonic force 7 to 8 later.
    Frequent heavy squally showers and thunderstorms.

    Tropical Cyclone Warning

    The tropical depression over Luzon Strait with central pressure 994 hectopascals has intensified into a Tropical Storm and was named as Barijat (1823). At 110000 UTC, it was centred within 90 nautical miles of two zero point nine degrees north (20.9 N) one one eight point six degrees east (118.6 E) and is forecast to move west at about 8 knots for the next 24 hours.

    Maximum winds near the centre are estimated to be 35 knots.

    Radius of over 33 knot winds 30 nautical miles.
    Radius of over 2 metre waves 90 nautical miles.

    Two zero point nine degrees north (20.9 N)
    One one five point eight degrees east (115.8 E)
    Maximum winds 40 knots.

    The Hong Kong Observatory's tropical cyclone warnings for shipping are issued about one and a half hours after the time of observation. They incorporate additional information derived from surface and upper-air data and may therefore be slightly different from the real-time satellite or radar-based positions given in the hourly bulletins for public.

    While the forecast positions and track indicate the most likely future path of the tropical cyclone, they may deviate from the actual path taken by the storm.
