Strong easterly winds, occasionally gale offshore, becoming southeasterlies tonight, moderating gradually later tomorrow. Mainly cloudy with a few squally showers. Showers will be more frequent with thunderstorms at first. Temperatures will range between 26 and 30 degrees. Seas will be rough with swells.

Outlook : Very hot on Friday and Saturday. Weather will deteriorate significantly with frequent heavy rain and squalls on Sunday. Seas will be very rough with swells.

    Warnings:
    Gale force winds in Hong Kong adjacent waters, Shanwei, south of Hong Kong and Shangchuan Dao. Strong winds in Nan'ao.

    Weather Situation:
    At 4 p.m., Tropical Storm Barijat with maximum sustained winds of about 65 kilometres per hour near its centre was located near 21.0 degrees north, 114.1 degrees east. It is forecast to move west at about 20 kilometres per hour in the general direction of the coast of western Guangdong.

    Tropical Cyclone Warning Bulletin

    Here is the latest Tropical Cyclone Warning Bulletin issued by the Hong Kong Observatory.

    The Strong Wind Signal, No. 3 is in force.

    This means that winds with mean speeds of 41 to 62 kilometres per hour are expected.

    At 5 p.m., Tropical Storm Barijat was estimated to be about 150 kilometres south of Hong Kong (near 21.0 degrees north 113.9 degrees east) and is forecast to move west at about 20 kilometres per hour in the general direction of the coast of western Guangdong.

    Local winds generally strengthened in the afternoon. Barijat is now skirting more than 100 kilometres to the south of Hong Kong. Unless Barijat moves further close to the Pearl River Estuary or intensifies significantly, the chance of issuing the Gale or Storm Signal, No. 8 will be relatively low.

    In the past hour, the maximum sustained winds recorded at Waglan Island and Cheung Chau Beach were 61 and 47 kilometres per hour respectively.

    1. Please take precautions now. Make sure objects likely to be blown away are securely fastened or taken indoors.

    2. Drains should be cleared of leaves and rubbish. People in low-lying areas should take precautions against flooding.

    3. Seas are rough and there are swells, you are advised to stay away from the shoreline and not to engage in water sports.

    4. Avoid staying in areas exposed to high winds. Drivers using highways and flyovers should be alert to violent gusts.

    5. Small vessels not yet in typhoon shelters should seek shelter without delay. Use heavy anchors and check that all deck fittings are firmly fastened.

    6. Listen to radio, watch TV or browse the Hong Kong Observatory's website and mobile app for the latest information on the tropical cyclone.

    Tropical Cyclone Warning

    At 120600 UTC, the tropical storm Barijat (1823) with central pressure 994 hectopascals was centred within 90 nautical miles of two one point zero degrees north (21.0 N) one one four point five degrees east (114.5 E) and is forecast to move west at about 10 knots for the next 24 hours.

    Maximum winds near the centre are estimated to be 35 knots.

    Radius of over 33 knot winds 30 nautical miles.
    Radius of over 2 metre waves 120 nautical miles.

    Two one point three degrees north (21.3 N)
    One zero nine point eight degrees east (109.8 E)
    Maximum winds 30 knots.

    Dissipated over land.



    The Hong Kong Observatory's tropical cyclone warnings for shipping are issued about one and a half hours after the time of observation. They incorporate additional information derived from surface and upper-air data and may therefore be slightly different from the real-time satellite or radar-based positions given in the hourly bulletins for public.

    While the forecast positions and track indicate the most likely future path of the tropical cyclone, they may deviate from the actual path taken by the storm.
