Weather Information for South China Coastal Waters
Bulletin issued at 12:02 HKT 14/Sep/2018
At noon at the Hong Kong Observatory the air temperature was 30 degrees Celsius and the relative humidity 71 per cent.
During the past hour the mean UV Index recorded at King's Park was 6. The intensity of UV radiation was high.
According to the present forecast track, Super Typhoon Mangkhut will move across the northern part of Luzon into the South China Sea on Saturday. Its track and wind strength near the centre may change under the influence of the terrain of Luzon, but it may maintain the strength of a super typhoon after entering the South China Sea. Despite the uncertainties in the subsequent track of Mangkhut and its distance from Hong Kong, Mangkhut's extensive circulation will pose a threat to the coast of Guangdong.
As there will be swells in Hong Kong waters on Saturday, members of the public should stay away from the shoreline and not to engage in water sports. Weather in Hong Kong will deteriorate significantly on Sunday. Winds will strengthen abruptly with frequent heavy rain and squalls. Seas will be very rough with swells. Heavy rain and storm surge may cause flooding and backflow of seawater in low-lying coastal areas. Mangkhut will depart from Hong Kong on Monday. Local winds will moderate gradually later but there will still be squally heavy showers. Members of the public should complete all precautionary measures as soon as possible.
Please be reminded that:
The Very Hot Weather Warning is now in force. Very hot weather might cause adverse health effects. Members of the public should take care to avoid heatstroke.
