During the past hour the mean UV Index recorded at King's Park was 1. The intensity of UV radiation was low.

The Thunderstorm Warning was issued at 5:20 p.m. It will remain effective until 6:30 p.m. today. Isolated thunderstorms are expected to occur over New Territories East.
The Very Hot Weather Warning is now in force. Very hot weather might cause adverse health effects. Members of the public should take care to avoid heatstroke.

Here is the latest weather bulletin issued by the Hong Kong Observatory.

The outer subsiding air of Super Typhoon Mangkhut is bringing very hot weather to Guangdong. Locally, temperatures over parts of the territory rose to around 33 degrees in the afternoon.

At 4 p.m., Super Typhoon Mangkhut was centred about 520 kilometres east-northeast of Manila. It is forecast to move northwest or west-northwest at about 28 kilometres per hour towards the northern part of Luzon and enter the South China Sea.

Weather forecast for tonight and tomorrow

Mainly fine and very hot. A few isolated showers and thunderstorms. Hazy tomorrow. Temperatures will range between 27 and 35 degrees. Light to moderate northeasterly winds, strengthening later tomorrow. Seas will be rough with swells.

Outlook : Weather will be adverse with storm surge on Sunday. Seas will be high. Winds will moderate gradually later on Monday but there will still be heavy squally showers.

    Weather information for south China coastal waters issued by the Hong Kong Observatory at 4:30 p.m. on 14 September 2018

    Warnings:
    Gale force winds in Nan'ao and Shanwei. Strong winds in Hong Kong adjacent waters, south of Hong Kong and Shangchuan Dao.

    Weather Situation:
    At 4 p.m., Super Typhoon Mangkhut with maximum sustained winds of about 240 kilometres per hour near its centre was located near 17.0 degrees north, 125.1 degrees east. It is forecast to move northwest or west-northwest at about 28 kilometres per hour towards the northern part of Luzon and enter the South China Sea.

    Hong Kong Adjacent Waters:
    Northeast force 4 to 5, becoming force 6.
    Hazy with a few rain patches and thunderstorms later.
    Moderate seas, becoming rough seas later.

    Nan'ao and Shanwei:

    South of Hong Kong:

    Tropical Cyclone Warning

    At 130900 UTC, Tropical Depression Barijat (1823) has weakened into an area of low pressure.

    No further warnings on this area of low pressure will be issued by the Hong Kong Observatory unless regeneration takes place.



    The Hong Kong Observatory's tropical cyclone warnings for shipping are issued about one and a half hours after the time of observation. They incorporate additional information derived from surface and upper-air data and may therefore be slightly different from the real-time satellite or radar-based positions given in the hourly bulletins for public.

    While the forecast positions and track indicate the most likely future path of the tropical cyclone, they may deviate from the actual path taken by the storm.
