Weather forecast for tonight and tomorrow

Mainly fine and very hot but hazy. A few showers and thunderstorms later tomorrow. Temperatures will range between 27 and 35 degrees. Light to moderate northeasterly winds, strengthening later tomorrow. Seas will be rough with swells.

Outlook : Weather will be adverse with storm surge on Sunday. Seas will be high. Winds will moderate gradually later on Monday but there will still be heavy squally showers.

    Weather information for south China coastal waters issued by the Hong Kong Observatory at 8:15 p.m. on 14 September 2018

    Warnings:
    Storm force winds in Nan'ao and Shanwei. Gale force winds in south of Hong Kong. Strong winds in Hong Kong adjacent waters and Shangchuan Dao.

    Weather Situation:
    At 8 p.m., Super Typhoon Mangkhut with maximum sustained winds of about 240 kilometres per hour near its centre was located near 17.4 degrees north, 124.0 degrees east. It is forecast to move northwest or west-northwest at about 28 kilometres per hour towards the northern part of Luzon and enter the South China Sea.

    Northeast force 4 to 5, force 6 to 7 later.
    Hazy with isolated squally showers and thunderstorms later.
    Moderate seas, becoming rough seas later.

    Tropical Cyclone Warning Bulletin

    Here is the latest Tropical Cyclone Warning Bulletin issued by the Hong Kong Observatory.

    The Standby Signal, No. 1 is in force.

    This means that a tropical cyclone will come within 800 kilometres of Hong Kong and may affect us.

    At 10 p.m., Super Typhoon Mangkhut was estimated to be about 1110 kilometres east-southeast of Hong Kong (near 17.5 degrees north 123.5 degrees east) and is forecast to move northwest or west-northwest at about 28 kilometres per hour towards the northern part of Luzon and enter the South China Sea.

    According to the present forecast track, Mangkhut will move across the northern part of Luzon in the small hours on Saturday, and enter the South China Sea in the morning. The terrain of Luzon will affect the intensity and movement of Mangkhut.

    Mangkhut is forecast to remain at super typhoon intensity and its circulation is extensive with high winds. It will pose a severe threat to the coast of Guangdong. The Observatory will consider issuing the Strong Wind Signal, No. 3 later on Saturday. There will be significant swells starting on Saturday. The Observatory appeals to the members of the public to stay away from the shoreline, and not to engage in water sports.

    1. Please complete all precautions as soon as possible. Make sure objects likely to be blown away are securely fastened or taken indoors. Check if all windows and doors can be securely locked.

    2. Drains should be cleared of leaves and rubbish. People in low-lying areas should take precautions against flooding.

    3. Those who have duties during a tropical cyclone should now remain on call.

    4. People planning to visit Guangdong, Macau, outlying islands or remote parts of Hong Kong should note that changes in weather may affect your trips.

    5. Small vessels not yet in typhoon shelters should seek shelter without delay. Use heavy anchors and check that all deck fittings are firmly fastened.

    6. Listen to radio, watch TV or browse the Hong Kong Observatory's website and mobile app for the latest information on the tropical cyclone.

    Tropical Cyclone Warning

    At 141200 UTC, the super typhoon Mangkhut (1822) with central pressure 905 hectopascals was centred within 30 nautical miles of one seven point four degrees north (17.4 N) one two four point one degrees east (124.1 E) and is forecast to move northwest or west-northwest at about 15 knots for the next 24 hours.

    Maximum winds near the centre are estimated to be 130 knots.

    Radius of over 33 knot winds 240 nautical miles.
    Radius of over 47 knot winds 150 nautical miles.
    Radius of over 63 knot winds 90 nautical miles.
    Radius of over 2 metre waves 360 nautical miles.

    One one eight point two degrees east (118.2 E)
    Maximum winds 110 knots.

    The Hong Kong Observatory's tropical cyclone warnings for shipping are issued about one and a half hours after the time of observation. They incorporate additional information derived from surface and upper-air data and may therefore be slightly different from the real-time satellite or radar-based positions given in the hourly bulletins for public.

    While the forecast positions and track indicate the most likely future path of the tropical cyclone, they may deviate from the actual path taken by the storm.
