Here is the latest weather bulletin issued by the Hong Kong Observatory.

The outer subsiding air of Super Typhoon Mangkhut brought very hot weather to Guangdong yesterday. Locally, temperatures over many places rose to 33 degrees or above in the afternoon. Mangkhut took a northwestward track towards Luzon, the threat to the vicinity of the Pearl River Delta has increased. Mangkhut is expected to edge closer to the coast of Guangdong on Sunday. The weather will deteriorate significantly with frequent heavy rain, squalls and storm surge over the region.

Weather forecast for Hong Kong

Mainly fine and very hot but hazy. A few showers and thunderstorms later. Temperatures will range between 27 and 35 degrees. Light to moderate northeasterly winds, strengthening later. Seas will be rough with swells.

Outlook : Weather will be adverse with storm surge on Sunday. Seas will be high. Winds will moderate gradually later on Monday but there will still be heavy squally showers.

    Warnings:
    Storm force winds in Nan'ao and Shanwei. Gale force winds in south of Hong Kong. Strong winds in Hong Kong adjacent waters and Shangchuan Dao.

    Weather Situation:
    At 11 p.m., Super Typhoon Mangkhut with maximum sustained winds of about 240 kilometres per hour near its centre was located near 17.6 degrees north, 123.2 degrees east. It is forecast to move northwest or west-northwest at about 28 kilometres per hour towards the northern part of Luzon and enter the South China Sea.

    Hong Kong Adjacent Waters:
    Northeast force 5, force 6 to 7 later.
    Hazy, isolated squally showers and thunderstorms later.
    Rough seas.

    Nan'ao and Shanwei:
    Northeast force 5 to 6, force 10 to 11 later.

    Moderate to rough seas, becoming high to very high later.

    Tropical Cyclone Warning Bulletin

    Here is the latest Tropical Cyclone Warning Bulletin issued by the Hong Kong Observatory.

    The Standby Signal, No. 1 is in force.

    This means that a tropical cyclone will come within 800 kilometres of Hong Kong and may affect us.

    At 1 a.m., Super Typhoon Mangkhut was estimated to be about 1020 kilometres east-southeast of Hong Kong (near 17.9 degrees north 122.7 degrees east) and is forecast to move northwest or west-northwest at about 28 kilometres per hour across the northern part of Luzon and enter the South China Sea.

    Mangkhut will make landfall over the northeastern tip of Luzon shortly and then move across the northern part of Luzon briefly. Under the influence of the terrain of Luzon, there may be some slight changes in the intensity and movement of Mangkhut.

    Nevertheless, Mangkhut will enter the northern part of the South China Sea on Saturday morning and will maintain at super typhoon intensity with extensive circulation and high winds. It will pose a severe threat to the coast of Guangdong. The Observatory will issue the Strong Wind Signal, No. 3 later on Saturday.

    There will be significant swells starting today. The Observatory appeals to the members of the public to stay away from the shoreline, and not to engage in water sports.

    1. Please complete all precautions as soon as possible. Make sure objects likely to be blown away are securely fastened or taken indoors. Check if all windows and doors can be securely locked.

    2. Drains should be cleared of leaves and rubbish. People in low-lying areas should take precautions against flooding.

    3. Those who have duties during a tropical cyclone should now remain on call.

    4. People planning to visit Guangdong, Macau, outlying islands or remote parts of Hong Kong should note that changes in weather may affect your trips.

    5. Small vessels not yet in typhoon shelters should seek shelter without delay. Use heavy anchors and check that all deck fittings are firmly fastened.

    6. Listen to radio, watch TV or browse the Hong Kong Observatory's website and mobile app for the latest information on the tropical cyclone.

    Tropical Cyclone Warning

    At 141500 UTC, the super typhoon Mangkhut (1822) with central pressure 900 hectopascals was centred within 30 nautical miles of one seven point seven degrees north (17.7 N) one two three point two degrees east (123.2 E) and is forecast to move northwest or west-northwest at about 15 knots for the next 24 hours.

    Maximum winds near the centre are estimated to be 135 knots.

    Radius of over 33 knot winds 270 nautical miles.
    Radius of over 47 knot winds 150 nautical miles.
    Radius of over 63 knot winds 90 nautical miles.
    Radius of over 2 metre waves 360 nautical miles.

    One nine point five degrees north (19.5 N)
    One one seven point four degrees east (117.4 E)
    Maximum winds 115 knots.

    The Hong Kong Observatory's tropical cyclone warnings for shipping are issued about one and a half hours after the time of observation. They incorporate additional information derived from surface and upper-air data and may therefore be slightly different from the real-time satellite or radar-based positions given in the hourly bulletins for public.

    While the forecast positions and track indicate the most likely future path of the tropical cyclone, they may deviate from the actual path taken by the storm.
