    Warnings:
    Hurricane force winds in Nan'ao, Shanwei and south of Hong Kong. Storm force winds in Hong Kong adjacent waters. Gale force winds in Shangchuan Dao.

    Weather Situation:
    At 5 a.m., Super Typhoon Mangkhut with maximum sustained winds of about 230 kilometres per hour near its centre was located at 18.0 degrees north, 121.3 degrees east. It is forecast to move northwest or west-northwest at about 30 kilometres per hour across the northern part of Luzon and enter the South China Sea.

    Hong Kong Adjacent Waters:
    Northeast force 5 to 6, becoming force 10 to 11 later.
    Hazy, isolated squally showers and thunderstorms later.
    Moderate to rough seas, becoming high to very high later.

    Nan'ao and Shanwei:

    Frequent heavy squally showers and thunderstorms later.

    Tropical Cyclone Warning Bulletin

    Here is the latest Tropical Cyclone Warning Bulletin issued by the Hong Kong Observatory.

    The Standby Signal, No. 1 is in force.

    This means that a tropical cyclone will come within 800 kilometres of Hong Kong and may affect us.

    At 7 a.m., Super Typhoon Mangkhut was estimated to be about 850 kilometres southeast of Hong Kong (near 18.0 degrees north 120.9 degrees east) and is forecast to move northwest or west-northwest at about 30 kilometres per hour across the northern part of Luzon and enter the South China Sea.

    Mangkhut is moving across the northern part of Luzon briefly. Under the influence of the terrain of Luzon, it has weakened slightly but still maintains super typhoon intensity.

    Mangkhut will enter the northern part of the South China Sea this morning and move rapidly towards the coast of Guangdong. Mangkhut has extensive circulation with high winds, posing a severe threat to the region. The Observatory will issue the Strong Wind Signal, No. 3 later today.

    There will be significant swells starting today. The Observatory appeals to the members of the public to stay away from the shoreline, and not to engage in water sports.

    1. Please complete all precautions as soon as possible. Make sure objects likely to be blown away are securely fastened or taken indoors. Check if all windows and doors can be securely locked.

    2. Drains should be cleared of leaves and rubbish. People in low-lying areas should take precautions against flooding.

    3. Those who have duties during a tropical cyclone should now remain on call.

    4. People planning to visit Guangdong, Macau, outlying islands or remote parts of Hong Kong should note that changes in weather may affect your trips.

    5. Construction and property management practitioners should make sure that overhanging facilities and temporary structures outdoors are securely fastened or placed on the ground, and complete precautionary measures as soon as possible.

    6. Small vessel owners should now complete all safety arrangements and return to nearby typhoon shelters.

    7. Listen to radio, watch TV or browse the Hong Kong Observatory's website and mobile app for the latest information on the tropical cyclone.

    Tropical Cyclone Warning

    At 142100 UTC, the super typhoon Mangkhut (1822) with central pressure 915 hectopascals was centred within 30 nautical miles of one eight point zero degrees north (18.0 N) one two one point three degrees east (121.3 E) and is forecast to move northwest or west-northwest at about 16 knots for the next 24 hours.

    Maximum winds near the centre are estimated to be 125 knots.

    Radius of over 33 knot winds 270 nautical miles.
    Radius of over 47 knot winds 150 nautical miles.
    Radius of over 63 knot winds 90 nautical miles.
    Radius of over 2 metre waves 360 nautical miles.

    Forecast position and intensity at 152100 UTC
    Two zero point two degrees north (20.2 N)
    One one five point seven degrees east (115.7 E)
    Maximum winds 115 knots.

    Forecast position and intensity at 162100 UTC
    Two two point zero degrees north (22.0 N)
    One zero nine point zero degrees east (109.0 E)
    Maximum winds 80 knots.

    The Hong Kong Observatory's tropical cyclone warnings for shipping are issued about one and a half hours after the time of observation. They incorporate additional information derived from surface and upper-air data and may therefore be slightly different from the real-time satellite or radar-based positions given in the hourly bulletins for public.

    While the forecast positions and track indicate the most likely future path of the tropical cyclone, they may deviate from the actual path taken by the storm.
