Strong northeasterly winds. Winds will strengthen significantly tomorrow and becoming storm force southeasterly winds, hurricane offshore and on high ground. Cloudy to overcast. There will be frequent heavy rain, squalls, thunderstorms and storm surge. Seas will be high with swells. Temperatures will range between 25 and 31 degrees tomorrow.

Outlook : Still heavy squally showers on Monday. Winds will weaken gradually later. Showers easing off in the following couple of days.

    Weather information for south China coastal waters issued by the Hong Kong Observatory at 7:30 p.m. on 15 September 2018

    Hurricane force winds in all areas.

    Weather Situation:
    At 7 p.m., Super Typhoon Mangkhut with maximum sustained winds of about 195 kilometres per hour near its centre was located near 19.2 degrees north, 118.7 degrees east. It is forecast to move west-northwest at about 30 kilometres per hour across the northern part of the South China Sea towards the coast of western Guangdong.

    Northeast force 7 to 8, becoming southeast force 12.
    Frequent heavy squally showers and thunderstorms.
    Very rough seas, becoming phenomenal.

    Nan'ao:

    Tropical Cyclone Warning Bulletin

    Here is the latest Tropical Cyclone Warning Bulletin issued by the Hong Kong Observatory.

    The Strong Wind Signal, No. 3 is in force.

    This means that winds with mean speeds of 41 to 62 kilometres per hour are expected.

    At 10 p.m., Super Typhoon Mangkhut was estimated to be about 490 kilometres southeast of Hong Kong (near 19.5 degrees north 117.8 degrees east) and is forecast to move west-northwest at about 30 kilometres per hour across the northern part of the South China Sea towards the coast of western Guangdong.

    Tropical Cyclone Warning

    At 151200 UTC, Super Typhoon Mangkhut (1822) with central pressure 940 hectopascals was centred within 30 nautical miles of one nine point three degrees north (19.3 N) one one eight point three degrees east (118.3 E) and is forecast to move west-northwest at about 16 knots for the next 24 hours.

    Maximum winds near the centre are estimated to be 105 knots.

    Radius of over 33 knot winds 225 nautical miles.
    Radius of over 47 knot winds 120 nautical miles.
    Radius of over 63 knot winds 75 nautical miles.
    Radius of over 2 metre waves 330 nautical miles.

    Forecast position and intensity at 161200 UTC
    Two two point one degrees north (22.1 N)
    One one one point seven degrees east (111.7 E)
    Maximum winds 90 knots.

    Forecast position and intensity at 171200 UTC
    Two three point five degrees north (23.5 N)

    The Hong Kong Observatory's tropical cyclone warnings for shipping are issued about one and a half hours after the time of observation. They incorporate additional information derived from surface and upper-air data and may therefore be slightly different from the real-time satellite or radar-based positions given in the hourly bulletins for public.

    While the forecast positions and track indicate the most likely future path of the tropical cyclone, they may deviate from the actual path taken by the storm.
