At 9 p.m. at the Hong Kong Observatory the air temperature was 26 degrees Celsius and the relative humidity 35 per cent.

The northeast monsoon is affecting southern China. Meanwhile, Typhoon Yutu moved west across Luzon and entered the South China Sea late this afternoon. According to its present forecast track, Yutu will slow down progressively and turn to the north in the next couple of days. Depending on the movement of Yutu, the Observatory will consider the need to issue the Standby Signal, No. 1 on Wednesday morning.

Here is the latest weather bulletin issued by the Hong Kong Observatory.

A dry northeast monsoon is affecting the coastal areas of Guangdong.

At 8 p.m., Typhoon Yutu was centred about 310 kilometres northwest of Manila. It is forecast to move west or west-northwest at about 18 kilometres per hour across the northeastern part of the South China Sea.

Weather forecast for tonight and tomorrow

Fine and very dry. Cooler in the morning and at night. The minimum temperature will be 23 degrees in the urban areas, and a few degrees lower in the New Territories. Sunny periods tomorrow with a maximum temperature of around 28 degrees. Moderate to fresh northerly winds, occasionally strong offshore and on high ground.

Outlook : Windy in the following couple of days. Sunny periods over the weekend and early next week.

Weather Situation:
The northeast monsoon is affecting the south China coastal waters.

At 7 p.m., Typhoon Yutu with maximum sustained winds of about 140 kilometres per hour near its centre was located near 16.8 degrees north, 119.5 degrees east. It is forecast to move west or west-northwest at about 18 kilometres per hour across the northeastern part of the South China Sea.

North to northeast force 5 to 6, occasionally force 7.
Rough seas.

Nan'ao and Shanwei:
North to northeast force 7 to 8.
Very rough seas.

At 301200 UTC, Typhoon Yutu (1826) with central pressure 960 hectopascals was centred within 60 nautical miles of one six point eight degrees north (16.8 N) one one nine point three degrees east (119.3 E) and is forecast to move west or west-northwest at about 10 knots for the next 24 hours.

Maximum winds near the centre are estimated to be 75 knots.
