At midnight at the Hong Kong Observatory the air temperature was 25 degrees Celsius and the relative humidity 35 per cent.

The northeast monsoon is affecting southern China. Meanwhile, Typhoon Yutu has entered the South China Sea. According to its present forecast track, Yutu will slow down progressively and turn north in the next couple of days. Depending on the movement of Yutu, the Observatory will consider the need to issue the Standby Signal, No. 1 on Wednesday morning.

Here is the latest weather bulletin issued by the Hong Kong Observatory.

A dry northeast monsoon affected the coastal areas of Guangdong yesterday. Locally, it was fine and very dry. The relative humidity in many places stayed at 30 per cent or below. The northeast monsoon will continue to affect southern China in the next few days.

Besides, Tropical Cyclone Yutu has weakened from a severe typhoon into a typhoon yesterday. At 11 p.m. last night, Yutu was centred about 340 kilometres northwest of Manila. It is forecast to move west or west-northwest at about 18 kilometres per hour across the northern part of the South China Sea.

Weather forecast for Hong Kong (Wednesday, 31 Oct 2018)

Fine and very dry. Relatively cool in the morning and at night. The minimum temperature will be about 23 degrees in the urban areas, and a few degrees lower in the New Territories. Sunny periods during the day with a maximum temperature of around 28 degrees. Moderate to fresh northerly winds, occasionally strong offshore and on high ground.

Outlook : Windy in the following couple of days. Sunny periods over the weekend and early next week.

    Weather Situation:
    The northeast monsoon is affecting the south China coastal waters.

    At 11 p.m., Typhoon Yutu with maximum sustained winds of about 140 kilometres per hour near its centre was located near 16.8 degrees north, 118.9 degrees east. It is forecast to move west or west-northwest at about 18 kilometres per hour across the northern part of the South China Sea.

    North to northeast force 5 to 6, occasionally force 7.
    Rough seas.

    Nan'ao and Shanwei:

    Tropical Cyclone Warning

    At 301500 UTC, Typhoon Yutu (1826) with central pressure 965 hectopascals was centred within 60 nautical miles of one six point eight degrees north (16.8 N) one one eight point nine degrees east (118.9 E) and is forecast to move west-northwest at about 8 knots for the next 24 hours.

    Maximum winds near the centre are estimated to be 70 knots.

    Radius of over 33 knot winds 180 nautical miles.
    Radius of over 47 knot winds 90 nautical miles.
    Radius of over 63 knot winds 30 nautical miles.
    Radius of over 2 metre waves 270 nautical miles.

    The Hong Kong Observatory's tropical cyclone warnings for shipping are issued about one and a half hours after the time of observation. They incorporate additional information derived from surface and upper-air data and may therefore be slightly different from the real-time satellite or radar-based positions given in the hourly bulletins for public.

    While the forecast positions and track indicate the most likely future path of the tropical cyclone, they may deviate from the actual path taken by the storm.
