Here is the latest weather bulletin issued by the Hong Kong Observatory.

A dry northeast monsoon is affecting the coastal areas of Guangdong.

At 6 a.m., Severe Tropical Storm Yutu was centred about 430 kilometres south-southeast of Dongsha Dao. It is forecast to move northwest at about 15 kilometres per hour across the northern part of the South China Sea.

Weather forecast for today

Very dry with sunny periods. The maximum temperature will be around 28 degrees. Moderate to fresh northerly winds, occasionally strong offshore and on high ground.

Outlook : Windy in the next couple of days. Sunny periods over the weekend and early next week.

Warnings:
Gale force winds in Nan'ao, Shanwei and south of Hong Kong. Strong winds in Hong Kong adjacent waters and Shangchuan Dao.

Weather Situation:
The northeast monsoon is affecting the south China coastal waters.

At 5 a.m., Severe Tropical Storm Yutu with maximum sustained winds of about 110 kilometres per hour near its centre was located near 17.0 degrees north, 118.3 degrees east. It is forecast to move northwest or west-northwest at about 15 kilometres per hour across the northern part of the South China Sea.

Area forecasts for the next 24 hours

Hong Kong Adjacent Waters:
North to northeast force 5 to 6, occasionally force 7.
A few showers.
Rough seas.

Nan'ao and Shanwei:
North to northeast force 7 to 8.
Frequent heavy squally showers and thunderstorms.

South of Hong Kong:
North to northeast force 6 to 7, occasionally force 8.
Rough to very rough seas.

Shangchuan Dao:
North to northeast force 5 to 6, occasionally force 7.

Tropical Cyclone Warning

At 302100 UTC, Severe Tropical Storm Yutu (1826) with central pressure 975 hectopascals was centred within 60 nautical miles of one seven point one degrees north (17.1 N) one one eight point four degrees east (118.4 E) and is forecast to move northwest at about 6 knots for the next 24 hours.

Maximum winds near the centre are estimated to be 60 knots.

Radius of over 33 knot winds 210 nautical miles over northwest quadrant, 180 nautical miles elsewhere.
Radius of over 47 knot winds 60 nautical miles.
Radius of over 2 metre waves 240 nautical miles.

The Hong Kong Observatory's tropical cyclone warnings for shipping are issued about one and a half hours after the time of observation. They incorporate additional information derived from surface and upper-air data and may therefore be slightly different from the real-time satellite or radar-based positions given in the hourly bulletins for public.

While the forecast positions and track indicate the most likely future path of the tropical cyclone, they may deviate from the actual path taken by the storm.
