Here is the latest weather bulletin issued by the Hong Kong Observatory.

The winter monsoon brought cold weather to southern China yesterday. Locally, it was mainly cloudy with bright periods during the day. There was light rain at night and temperatures over most parts of the territory were around four degrees lower than those of the day before. Under the influence of the intense winter monsoon, cold weather will persist over the coast of Guangdong in the next few days. It will also be windier with a few rain patches.

At 11 p.m. last night, the tropical depression over the Philippines was centred about 350 kilometres south of Manila. It is forecast to move west at about 25 kilometres per hour across the central part of the Philippines.

Weather forecast for Hong Kong (Sunday, 30 Dec 2018)

Mainly cloudy. Cold with one or two light rain patches in the morning and at night. The minimum temperature will be about 11 degrees in the urban areas, and a couple of degrees lower in the New Territories. Bright periods during the day with a maximum temperature of around 15 degrees. Moderate to fresh northerly winds, occasionally strong offshore and on high ground.

Outlook : Cold weather will persist and it will be windier in the following few days. A few rain patches midweek this week.

    An intense northeast monsoon is affecting the south China coastal waters.

    At 11 p.m., the tropical depression over the Philippines with maximum sustained winds of about 45 kilometres per hour near its centre was located near 11.4 degrees north, 121.5 degrees east. It is forecast to move west at about 25 kilometres per hour across the central part of the Philippines.

    Tropical Cyclone Warning

    At 291500 UTC, the tropical depression over the Philippines with central pressure 1002 hectopascals was centred within 90 nautical miles of one zero point nine degrees north (10.9 N) one two one point two degrees east (121.2 E) and is forecast to move west at about 14 knots for the next 24 hours.

    Maximum winds near the centre are estimated to be 25 knots.

    Radius of over 2 metre waves 60 nautical miles.

    The Hong Kong Observatory's tropical cyclone warnings for shipping are issued about one and a half hours after the time of observation. They incorporate additional information derived from surface and upper-air data and may therefore be slightly different from the real-time satellite or radar-based positions given in the hourly bulletins for public.

    While the forecast positions and track indicate the most likely future path of the tropical cyclone, they may deviate from the actual path taken by the storm.
