At 4 p.m. at the Hong Kong Observatory the air temperature was 31 degrees Celsius and the relative humidity 74 per cent.
During the past hour the mean UV Index recorded at King's Park was 2. The intensity of UV radiation was low.

Please be reminded that:

The Thunderstorm Warning has been issued. It will remain effective until 5:00 p.m. today. Isolated thunderstorms are expected to occur over New Territories.
The Very Hot Weather Warning is now in force. Very hot weather might cause adverse health effects. Members of the public should take care to avoid heatstroke.

Here is the latest weather bulletin issued by the Hong Kong Observatory.

Winds are weak over the coastal areas of Guangdong. Meanwhile, thundery showers triggered by high temperatures are affecting Guangdong.

At 4 p.m., Severe Tropical Storm Bailu was centred about 620 kilometres southeast of Gaoxiong. It is forecast to move northwest at about 28 kilometres per hour across the western North Pacific towards the vicinity of the southern part of Taiwan.

Weather forecast for tonight and tomorrow

A few showers. There will be isolated squally thunderstorms at first and later tomorrow. The minimum temperature will be about 28 degrees. Very hot with sunny periods and haze during the day. The maximum temperature will be around 34 degrees in the urban areas, and a couple of degrees higher in the New Territories. Light winds, becoming moderate west to northwesterlies later tomorrow.

Outlook : Windier with occasional showers and thunderstorms on Sunday. Weather will improve with less showers in the following couple of days.

Weather information for south China coastal waters issued by the Hong Kong Observatory at 4:30 p.m. on 23 August 2019

Warnings:
Strong winds in Nan'ao and Shanwei.

Weather Situation:
At 4 p.m., Severe Tropical Storm Bailu with maximum sustained winds of about 90 kilometres per hour near its centre was located at 19.4 degrees north, 125.2 degrees east. It is forecast to move northwest at about 28 kilometres per hour across the western North Pacific towards the vicinity of the southern part of Taiwan.

Area forecasts for the next 24 hours

Hong Kong Adjacent Waters:
North to northwest force 3 to 4.
Isolated squally showers and thunderstorms, some haze.
Slight to moderate seas.

Nan'ao:
North to northwest force 4 to 5, becoming force 6 to 7 later.
Scattered squally showers and thunderstorms.
Moderate seas, becoming rough later.

Shanwei:
North to northwest force 4 to 5, becoming force 6 later.
Scattered squally showers and thunderstorms.
Moderate seas, becoming rough later.

South of Hong Kong and Shangchuan Dao:
