Here is the latest weather bulletin issued by the Hong Kong Observatory.

The anticyclone aloft covered southeastern China strengthened gradually today. Locally, it was mainly cloudy. There were a few showers at first. More than 10 millimetres of rainfall were recorded over the eastern part of the New Territories. Hot with sunny periods during the day. The anticyclone aloft is expected to bring generally fine and very hot weather to Guangdong in the next couple of days.

Besides, the area of low pressure over the western North Pacific intensified into a tropical depression today and was named Podul. At 11 p.m., Podul was centred about 280 kilometres northeast of Manila. It is forecast to move west-northwest at about 30 kilometres per hour towards and across Luzon.

Weather forecast for Hong Kong (Wednesday, 28 Aug 2019)

Mainly fine. The minimum temperature will be about 28 degrees. It will be hazy. Very hot during the day. The maximum temperature will be around 34 degrees in the urban areas, and a couple of degrees higher in the New Territories. Light to moderate easterly winds.

Outlook : The weather will become unsettled and windier in the following couple of days.

Warnings:
Strong winds in Nan'ao, Shanwei, south of Hong Kong and Shangchuan Dao.

Weather Situation:
A southeasterly airstream is affecting the south China coastal waters.

At 11 p.m., Tropical Depression Podul with maximum sustained winds of about 55 kilometres per hour near its centre was located at 16.1 degrees north, 123.0 degrees east. It is forecast to move west-northwest at about 30 kilometres per hour towards and across Luzon.

Area forecasts for the next 24 hours

Hong Kong Adjacent Waters:
Southeast force 4, becoming east to northeast force 4 to 5.
Some haze.
Moderate seas.

Nan'ao and Shanwei:
East to northeast force 5 to 6.
Isolated squally showers and thunderstorms.

Southeast force 4 to 5, becoming east to northeast force 5 to 6.

Tropical Cyclone Warning

At 271200 UTC, Tropical Depression Podul (1912) with central pressure 998 hectopascals was centred within 90 nautical miles of one six point zero degrees north (16.0 N) one two three point five degrees east (123.5 E) and is forecast to move west-northwest at about 16 knots for the next 24 hours.

Maximum winds near the centre are estimated to be 30 knots.

Radius of over 2 metre waves 180 nautical miles.
