At 1 p.m. at the Hong Kong Observatory the air temperature was 33 degrees Celsius and the relative humidity 64 per cent.
During the past hour the mean UV Index recorded at King's Park was 9. The intensity of UV radiation was very high.

According to the present forecast track, Podul is expected to edge slightly closer to the coast of southern China. The Observatory will consider issuing the Standby Signal No. 1 this afternoon.

An anticyclone aloft is bringing generally fine weather to southeastern China.

At noon, Tropical Storm Podul was centred about 470 kilometres east of Xisha. It is forecast to move west or west-northwest at about 25 kilometres per hour across the central part of the South China Sea.

Weather forecast for this afternoon and tonight

Mainly fine and very hot with haze in the afternoon. Cloudy periods tonight. Light to moderate north to northeasterly winds.

Outlook : More showers and windier with swells in the next couple of days.

Weather Situation:
The northerly airstream is affecting the south China coastal waters.

At noon, Tropical Storm Podul with maximum sustained winds of about 75 kilometres per hour near its centre was located at 17.0 degrees north, 116.7 degrees east. It is forecast to move west or west-northwest at about 25 kilometres per hour across the central part of the South China Sea.

North to northeast force 4 to 5, up to force 6 later.
Some haze.
Moderate to rough seas.

Nan'ao and Shanwei:
East to northeast force 5 to 6, up to force 7 later.

Tropical Cyclone Warning

At 280300 UTC, Tropical Storm Podul (1912) with central pressure 990 hectopascals was centred within 90 nautical miles of one six point eight degrees north (16.8 N) one one six point seven degrees east (116.7 E) and is forecast to move west or west-northwest at about 15 knots for the next 24 hours.

Maximum winds near the centre are estimated to be 40 knots.

Radius of over 33 knot winds 60 nautical miles.
Radius of over 2 metre waves 240 nautical miles.
