Tropical Cyclone Warnings

Bulletin issued at 16:45 HKT 28/Aug/2019

Tropical Cyclone Warning Bulletin

Here is the latest Tropical Cyclone Warning Bulletin issued by the Hong Kong Observatory.

The Standby Signal, No. 1 is in force.

This means that a tropical cyclone now centred within about 800 kilometres of Hong Kong may affect us.

At 5 p.m., Tropical Storm Podul was estimated to be about 630 kilometres south-southeast of Hong Kong (near 16.8 degrees north 115.5 degrees east) and is forecast to move west or west-northwest at about 25 kilometres per hour across the central part of the South China Sea towards the vicinity of the southern part of Hainan Island.

According to the present forecast track, Podul will maintain a distance of over 500 kilometres from Hong Kong today, and local winds will not generally strengthen. The chance of issuing the Strong Wind Signal, No 3 today is not high.

Under the influence of an anticyclone aloft, it will be very hot with haze in Hong Kong today.

(Precautionary Announcements with No. 1 Signal)

1. Every precaution should be taken. Objects likely to be blown away should be secured or taken indoors.

2. Drains should now be cleared of leaves and rubbish. People in low-lying areas should take precautions against flooding.

3. Those who have duties during a tropical cyclone should now remain on call.

4. People planning to visit Guangdong, Macau, outlying islands or remote parts of Hong Kong should note that changes in weather may affect your trips.

5. There will be swells. You are advised to stay away from the shoreline.

6. Construction and property management practitioners should make sure that overhanging facilities and temporary structures outdoors are securely fastened, and should take precautionary measures.

7. Listen to radio, watch TV or browse the Hong Kong Observatory's website and mobile app for the latest information on the tropical cyclone.
