Here is the latest weather bulletin issued by the Hong Kong Observatory.

Winds are relatively weak and the weather is generally fine over Guangdong. Locally, it was very hot in the afternoon and temperatures over most parts of the territory rose to 33 degrees or above.

At 4 p.m., Typhoon Mitag was centred about 200 kilometres southeast of Taibei. It is forecast to move northwest or north-northwest at about 25 kilometres per hour, skirting the coastal waters of eastern Taiwan, and move in the general direction of the east China coast later.

Weather forecast for tonight and tomorrow

Fine and dry. The minimum temperature will be about 27 degrees. Hot with some haze during the day tomorrow with a maximum temperature will be around 32 degrees in the urban areas, and a couple of degrees higher in the New Territories. Light to moderate west to southwesterly winds.

Outlook : Mainly fine and hot in the following couple of days.

    Weather Situation:
    At 4 p.m., Typhoon Mitag with maximum sustained winds of about 140 kilometres per hour near its centre was located at 23.7 degrees north, 122.9 degrees east. It is forecast to move northwest or north-northwest at about 25 kilometres per hour skirting the coastal waters of eastern Taiwan, and move in the general direction of the east China coast later.

    Tropical Cyclone Warning

    At 300600 UTC, Typhoon Mitag (1918) with central pressure 960 hectopascals was centred within 30 nautical miles of two two point eight degrees north (22.8 N) one two two point nine degrees east (122.9 E) and is forecast to move northwest or north-northwest at about 14 knots for the next 24 hours.

    Maximum winds near the centre are estimated to be 75 knots.

    Radius of over 33 knot winds 210 nautical miles.
    Radius of over 47 knot winds 90 nautical miles.
    Radius of over 63 knot winds 30 nautical miles.
    Radius of over 2 metre waves 300 nautical miles.

They incorporate additional information derived from surface and upper-air data and may therefore be slightly different from the real-time satellite or radar-based positions given in the hourly bulletins for public.

    While the forecast positions and track indicate the most likely future path of the tropical cyclone, they may deviate from the actual path taken by the storm.
