Here is the latest weather bulletin issued by the Hong Kong Observatory.

The weather is generally fine over Guangdong. Locally, it was very hot in the afternoon. Temperatures over the territory rose to 33 degrees or above.

At 4 p.m., Typhoon Mitag was centred about 230 kilometres south-southeast of Shanghai. It is forecast to move north-northeast at about 22 kilometres per hour across the vicinity of the east China coast.

Weather forecast for tonight and tomorrow

Fine and dry. The minimum temperature will be about 28 degrees. The maximum temperature tomorrow will be around 32 degrees in the urban areas, and a couple of degrees higher in the New Territories. Light to moderate west to southwesterly winds.

Outlook : Mainly fine and hot in the following couple of days.

    Weather Situation:
    A southwest airstream is affecting the south China coastal waters.

    At 4 p.m., Typhoon Mitag with maximum sustained winds of about 120 kilometres per hour near its centre was located at 29.2 degrees north, 122.3 degrees east. It is forecast to move north-northeast at about 22 kilometres per hour across the vicinity of the east China coast.

    Tropical Cyclone Warning

    At 010600 UTC, Typhoon Mitag (1918) with central pressure 970 hectopascals was centred within 30 nautical miles of two eight point seven degrees north (28.7 N) one two two point two degrees east (122.2 E) and is forecast to move north-northeast at about 12 knots for the next 24 hours.

    Maximum winds near the centre are estimated to be 70 knots.

    Radius of over 33 knot winds 210 nautical miles.
    Radius of over 47 knot winds 120 nautical miles.
    Radius of over 63 knot winds 60 nautical miles.
    Radius of over 2 metre waves 300 nautical miles.

    Maximum winds 55 knots.

    The Hong Kong Observatory's tropical cyclone warnings for shipping are issued about one and a half hours after the time of observation. They incorporate additional information derived from surface and upper-air data and may therefore be slightly different from the real-time satellite or radar-based positions given in the hourly bulletins for public.

    While the forecast positions and track indicate the most likely future path of the tropical cyclone, they may deviate from the actual path taken by the storm.
