Bulletin updated at 23:15 HKT 18/Oct/2019

Here is the latest weather bulletin issued by the Hong Kong Observatory.

The northeast monsoon affected southern China today. Locally, it was mainly fine. There were isolated showers at first. The weather was dry during the day and the relative humidity over the territory once fell below 60 per cent. As the dry northeast monsoon persists, the weather will be generally fine over southern China in the next few days. Temperature difference between day and night will be relatively large over inland areas.

Besides, the area of low pressure over the seas east of the Philippines intensified into a tropical storm gradually this morning, and was named Neoguri. At 11 p.m., Neoguri was centred about 960 kilometres east-southeast of Gaoxiong. It is forecast to be slow-moving, lingering over the western North Pacific to the east of Luzon Strait.

Weather forecast for Hong Kong (Saturday, 19 Oct 2019)

Mainly fine. One or two rain patches in the morning and at night. The minimum temperature will be about 24 degrees in the urban areas, and a couple of degrees lower in the New Territories. 0.14 microsievert per hour. These are within the normal
range of fluctuation of the background radiation level in
Hong Kong (see Note). The average dose rates measured at the
radiation monitoring stations over various parts of the
territory were as follows :

Note
  1. From readings taken at various locations in Hong Kong in the past, the hourly mean ambient gamma radiation dose rate may vary between 0.06 and 0.3 microsievert per hour. (1 microsievert = 0.000001 sievert = 0.001 millisievert)
  2. Temporal variations are generally caused by changes in meteorological conditions such as rainfall, wind and barometric pressure.
  3. Spatial variations are generally caused by differences in the radioactive content of local rock and soil.
  4. The data displayed is provisional. Only limited data validation has been carried out.
