Here is the latest weather bulletin issued by the Hong Kong Observatory.

A dry northeast monsoon is affecting southern China. Meanwhile, a band of clouds is covering the coast of Guangdong.

The tropical depression over the southern part of the South China Sea has been named Matmo. At 3 a.m., Matmo was centred about 590 kilometres southeast of Da Nang. It is forecast to move west at about 18 kilometres per hour in the general direction of the southern part of Vietnam.

Weather forecast for today

Mainly cloudy. The minimum temperature will be about 21 degrees in the urban areas, and a couple of degrees lower in the New Territories. Dry with bright periods during the day with a maximum temperature of around 26 degrees. Moderate to fresh east to northeasterly winds, occasionally strong offshore later.

Outlook : Windy with sunny periods in the following couple of days. It will be slightly cooler in the morning and at night.

    Weather Situation:
    The northeast monsoon is affecting the south China coastal waters.

    The tropical depression over the southern part of the South China Sea was named Matmo. At 3 a.m., Matmo with maximum sustained winds of about 55 kilometres per hour near its centre was located at 12.8 degrees north, 112.5 degrees east. It is forecast to move west at about 18 kilometres per hour in the general direction of the southern part of Vietnam.

    One or two rain patches.
    Moderate to rough seas.

    Tropical Cyclone Warning

    The tropical depression over the southern part of the South China Sea has been named Matmo (1922). At 291800 UTC, Matmo (1922) with central pressure 1000 hectopascals was centred within 90 nautical miles of one two point eight degrees north (12.8 N) one one two point seven degrees east (112.7 E) and is forecast to move west at about 10 knots for the next 24 hours.

    Maximum winds near the centre are estimated to be 30 knots.

    Radius of over 2 metre waves 180 nautical miles over northern semicircle, 60 nautical miles elsewhere.

    One three point four degrees north (13.4 N)
    One zero eight point four degrees east (108.4 E)
    Maximum winds 35 knots.

    Dissipated over land.



    The Hong Kong Observatory's tropical cyclone warnings for shipping are issued about one and a half hours after the time of observation. They incorporate additional information derived from surface and upper-air data and may therefore be slightly different from the real-time satellite or radar-based positions given in the hourly bulletins for public.

    While the forecast positions and track indicate the most likely future path of the tropical cyclone, they may deviate from the actual path taken by the storm.
