A dry northeast monsoon is affecting southern China. Meanwhile, a band of clouds is covering the coast of Guangdong.

Tropical Depression Matmo has intensified into a tropical storm. At 10 a.m., Matmo was centred about 480 kilometres southeast of Da Nang. It is forecast to move west at about 18 kilometres per hour in the general direction of the southern part of Vietnam.

Weather forecast for today

Dry with bright periods. Moderate to fresh east to northeasterly winds, occasionally strong offshore tonight.

Outlook : Windy with sunny periods in the next couple of days. It will be slightly cooler in the morning and at night.

    The northeast monsoon is affecting the south China coastal waters.

    Tropical Depression Matmo has intensified into a tropical storm. At 9 a.m., Matmo with maximum sustained winds of about 65 kilometres per hour near its centre was located at 12.9 degrees north, 111.5 degrees east. It is forecast to move west at about 18 kilometres per hour in the general direction of the southern part of Vietnam.

    Tropical Cyclone Warning

    Tropical Depression Matmo (1922) has intensified into a Tropical Storm with central pressure 998 hectopascals. At 300000 UTC, it was centred within 90 nautical miles of one two point nine degrees north (12.9 N) one one one point eight degrees east (111.8 E) and is forecast to move west at about 10 knots for the next 24 hours.

    Maximum winds near the centre are estimated to be 35 knots.

    Radius of over 33 knot winds 60 nautical miles.
    Radius of over 2 metre waves 180 nautical miles over northern semicircle, 90 nautical miles elsewhere.
