Tropical Cyclone Warning

At 181500 UTC, Severe Tropical Storm Kalmaegi (1926) with central pressure 980 hectopascals was centred within 60 nautical miles of one eight point nine degrees north (18.9 N) one two two point six degrees east (122.6 E) and is forecast to move west at about 5 knots for the next 24 hours.

Maximum winds near the centre are estimated to be 55 knots.

Radius of over 33 knot winds 120 nautical miles.
Radius of over 47 knot winds 90 nautical miles.
Radius of over 2 metre waves 180 nautical miles.

Forecast position and intensity at 191500 UTC
One seven point five degrees north (17.5 N)
One two zero point two degrees east (120.2 E)
Maximum winds 45 knots.

Forecast position and intensity at 201500 UTC
Dissipated over sea.

The Hong Kong Observatory's tropical cyclone warnings for shipping are issued about one and a half hours after the time of observation. They incorporate additional information derived from surface and upper-air data and may therefore be slightly different from the real-time satellite or radar-based positions given in the hourly bulletins for public.

While the forecast positions and track indicate the most likely future path of the tropical cyclone, they may deviate from the actual path taken by the storm.

range of fluctuation of the background radiation level in
Hong Kong (see Note). The average dose rates measured at the

territory were as follows :

  2. Temporal variations are generally caused by changes in meteorological conditions such as rainfall, wind and barometric pressure.
  3. Spatial variations are generally caused by differences in the radioactive content of local rock and soil.
  4. The data displayed is provisional. Only limited data validation has been carried out.
