Tropical Cyclone Warning

At 220300 UTC, Severe Tropical Storm Fung-wong (1927) with central pressure 984 hectopascals was centred within 60 nautical miles of two three point three degrees north (23.3 N) one two five point one degrees east (125.1 E) and is forecast to move north or north-northeast at about 8 knots for the next 24 hours.

Maximum winds near the centre are estimated to be 50 knots.

Radius of over 33 knot winds 60 nautical miles.
Radius of over 47 knot winds 30 nautical miles.
Radius of over 2 metre waves 120 nautical miles.

No further warnings on this Severe Tropical Storm will be issued by the Hong Kong Observatory unless it re-enters the Hong Kong area of responsibility.

Forecast position and intensity at 230300 UTC
Two six point three degrees north (26.3 N)
One two five point three degrees east (125.3 E)
Maximum winds 25 knots.

Forecast position and intensity at 240300 UTC
Dissipated over sea.

The Hong Kong Observatory's tropical cyclone warnings for shipping are issued about one and a half hours after the time of observation. They incorporate additional information derived from surface and upper-air data and may therefore be slightly different from the real-time satellite or radar-based positions given in the hourly bulletins for public.

While the forecast positions and track indicate the most likely future path of the tropical cyclone, they may deviate from the actual path taken by the storm.

Hong Kong (see Note). The average dose rates measured at the
radiation monitoring stations over various parts of the
territory were as follows :

  1. From readings taken at various locations in Hong Kong in the past, the hourly mean ambient gamma radiation dose rate may vary between 0.06 and 0.3 microsievert per hour. (1 microsievert = 0.000001 sievert = 0.001 millisievert)
  2. Temporal variations are generally caused by changes in meteorological conditions such as rainfall, wind and barometric pressure.
  3. Spatial variations are generally caused by differences in the radioactive content of local rock and soil.
  4. The data displayed is provisional. Only limited data validation has been carried out.
