Here is the latest weather bulletin issued by the Hong Kong Observatory.

A southerly airstream brought hot weather to the coast of Guangdong today. Locally, it was hot with sunny periods. The maximum temperature recorded at the Observatory was 30.7 degrees in the afternoon, the highest so far this year. The southerly airstream will continue to bring hot weather to Guangdong tomorrow.

Weather forecast for Hong Kong (Wednesday, 19 Apr 2017)

Mainly cloudy with isolated showers. Visibility relatively low in some areas at first. Sunny intervals during the day. Temperatures will range between 25 and 29 degrees. Light to moderate southwesterly winds.

Outlook : Becoming more showery in the following couple of days. Slightly cooler during the weekend.

  1. From readings taken at various locations in Hong Kong during the period 1987-2016, the background ambient gamma radiation levels may vary between 0.06 and 0.30 microsievert per hour.
  2. The extent of health effects to a person as a result of exposure to radiation is expressed by a physical quantity called equivalent dose, in unit of sievert. Protective action may be required if there is an increase in the ambient gamma dose rate above background such that the total additional dose is expected to exceed 5000 microsieverts in a relatively short period of time. For example, a dose of 5000 microsieverts may be reached when the ambient gamma dose rate is 1000 microsieverts per hour (several thousand times above background) and lasts for 5 hours.
  3. The readings of ambient gamma radiation level from instrument are expressed in unit of gray, which is numerically equal to the gamma dose expressed in sievert.
