Here is the latest weather bulletin issued by the Hong Kong Observatory.

A southerly airstream brought hot weather to the coast of Guangdong today. Locally, it was mainly fine and hot. Temperatures over many places rose to 30 degrees or above in the afternoon. The southerly airstream will continue to affect the coastal areas of Guangdong tomorrow. A cold front will reach the south China coast later on Friday and bring thundery showers to the region. The weather will be cooler over the region during the weekend.

Weather forecast for Hong Kong (Thursday, 20 Apr 2017)

Mainly cloudy with a few showers. There will be isolated thunderstorms in the morning. Sunny intervals in the afternoon. Temperatures will range between 25 and 29 degrees. Moderate south to southwesterly winds.

Outlook : There will be showers and a few thunderstorms on Friday. Cooler during the weekend.

  1. From readings taken at various locations in Hong Kong during the period 1987-2016, the background ambient gamma radiation levels may vary between 0.06 and 0.30 microsievert per hour.
  2. The extent of health effects to a person as a result of exposure to radiation is expressed by a physical quantity called equivalent dose, in unit of sievert. Protective action may be required if there is an increase in the ambient gamma dose rate above background such that the total additional dose is expected to exceed 5000 microsieverts in a relatively short period of time. For example, a dose of 5000 microsieverts may be reached when the ambient gamma dose rate is 1000 microsieverts per hour (several thousand times above background) and lasts for 5 hours.
  3. The readings of ambient gamma radiation level from instrument are expressed in unit of gray, which is numerically equal to the gamma dose expressed in sievert.
