Here is the latest weather bulletin issued by the Hong Kong Observatory.

A strong easterly airstream affected the coast of southeastern China yesterday morning. Locally, it was cloudy with one or two light rain patches and strong winds offshore at first yesterday. Winds weakened during the day and there were sunny periods.

Besides, the area of low pressure near the Philippines intensified into a tropical depression and was named Haikui yesterday. At 11 p.m. last night, Haikui was centred about 70 kilometres south-southwest of Manila. It is forecast to move west-northwest at about 22 kilometres per hour entering the central part of the South China Sea and continue to intensify. On the other hand, the northeast monsoon will strengthen slightly during the weekend. Under the combined effect of the northeast monsoon and Haikui, it will be windy with rain over the south China coastal areas over the weekend and early next week.

Weather forecast for Hong Kong (Friday, 10 Nov 2017)

Cloudy periods in the morning and at night. Mainly fine during the day. Temperatures will range between 23 and 28 degrees. Moderate east to northeasterly winds, fresh at first.

Outlook : Windy in the following couple of days. Sunny periods on Saturday, a few rain patches early next week.

    Weather Situation:
    The northeast monsoon is affecting the south China coastal waters.

    At 11 p.m., Tropical Depression Haikui with maximum sustained winds of about 45 kilometres per hour near its centre was located near 14.0 degrees north, 120.7 degrees east. It is forecast to move west-northwest at about 22 kilometres per hour entering the central part of the South China Sea and continue to intensify.

    Tropical Cyclone Warning

    At 091500 UTC, the tropical depression Haikui (1724) with central pressure 998 hectopascals was centred within 90 nautical miles of one four point zero degrees north (14.0 N) one two zero point seven degrees east (120.7 E) and is forecast to move west-northwest at about 12 knots for the next 24 hours.

    Maximum winds near the centre are estimated to be 30 knots.

    Radius of over 2 metre waves 60 nautical miles.

    The Hong Kong Observatory's tropical cyclone warnings for shipping are issued about one and a half hours after the time of observation. They incorporate additional information derived from surface and upper-air data and may therefore be slightly different from the real-time satellite or radar-based positions given in the hourly bulletins for public.

    While the forecast positions and track indicate the most likely future path of the tropical cyclone, they may deviate from the actual path taken by the storm.

    1. From readings taken at various locations in Hong Kong during
the period 1987-2016, the background ambient gamma radiation
levels may vary between 0.06 and 0.30 microsievert per hour.

    2. The extent of health effects to a person as a result of
exposure to radiation is expressed by a physical quantity
called equivalent dose, in unit of sievert.  Protective
action may be required if there is an increase in the
ambient gamma dose rate above background such that the total
additional dose is expected to exceed 5000 microsieverts in
a relatively short period of time. For example, a dose of
5000 microsieverts may be reached when the ambient gamma
dose rate is 1000 microsieverts per hour (several thousand
times above background) and lasts for 5 hours.

    3. The readings of ambient gamma radiation level from
instrument are expressed in unit of gray, which is
numerically equal to the gamma dose expressed in sievert.
