Here is the latest weather bulletin issued by the Hong Kong Observatory.

Showers are affecting the coast of Guangdong and the northern part of the South China Sea.

At noon, the tropical depression over the central part of the South China Sea was centred about 230 kilometres west-southwest of Xisha. It is forecast to move north slowly towards the vicinity of Hainan Island.

Weather forecast for this afternoon and tonight

Mainly cloudy with a few showers and thunderstorms. Moderate easterly winds, fresh offshore.

Outlook : There will be squally showers and thunderstorms in the next few days.

Weather Situation:
An easterly airstream is affecting the south China coastal waters.

At noon, the tropical depression over the central part of the South China Sea with maximum sustained winds of about 45 kilometres per hour near its centre was located near 15.8 degrees north, 110.5 degrees east. It is forecast to move north slowly towards the vicinity of Hainan Island.

Area forecasts for the next 24 hours

Hong Kong Adjacent Waters:
East to southeast force 5 to 6.
Scattered squally showers and thunderstorms.
Moderate to rough seas.

Nan'ao, Shanwei and South of Hong Kong:
East to southeast force 5 to 6.
Scattered squally showers and thunderstorms.
Moderate to rough seas.

Shangchuan Dao:
East to southeast force 5 to 6, becoming force 7 later.
Frequent heavy squally showers and thunderstorms.
Moderate to rough seas.

Tropical Cyclone Warning

At 040300 UTC, Tropical Depression over the central part of South China Sea with central pressure 1000 hectopascals was centred within 90 nautical miles of one five point eight degrees north (15.8 N) one one zero point five degrees east (110.5 E) and is forecast to move north slowly for the next 24 hours.

Maximum winds near the centre are estimated to be 25 knots.

Radius of over 2 metre waves 90 nautical miles.

The Hong Kong Observatory's tropical cyclone warnings for shipping are issued about one and a half hours after the time of observation. They incorporate additional information derived from surface and upper-air data and may therefore be slightly different from the real-time satellite or radar-based positions given in the hourly bulletins for public.

While the forecast positions and track indicate the most likely future path of the tropical cyclone, they may deviate from the actual path taken by the storm.
