Here is the latest weather bulletin issued by the Hong Kong Observatory.

Showers affected the coast of Guangdong and the northern part of the South China Sea yesterday. Locally, it was mainly cloudy with a few showers and thunderstorms. More than 10 millimetres of rainfall were recorded over parts of Hong Kong. The tropical cyclone over the central part of the South China Sea will move towards the vicinity of Hainan Island and western Guangdong in the next couple of days, but there are still uncertainties in its subsequent movement and intensity. The squally showers associated with the tropical cyclone will affect the south China coast in the next couple of days.

At 11 p.m. last night, the tropical depression over the central part of the South China Sea was centred about 210 kilometres west-southwest of Xisha. It is forecast to move north slowly towards the vicinity of Hainan Island.

Weather forecast for Hong Kong

Mainly cloudy with showers and a few squally thunderstorms. Temperatures will range between 26 and 30 degrees. Moderate to fresh east to southeasterly winds, occasionally strong offshore.

Outlook : There will be squally showers and thunderstorms in the following couple of days.

An easterly airstream is affecting the south China coastal waters.

At 11 p.m., the tropical depression over the central part of the South China Sea with maximum sustained winds of about 45 kilometres per hour near its centre was located near 16.0 degrees north, 110.6 degrees east. It is forecast to move north slowly towards the vicinity of Hainan Island.

Tropical Cyclone Warning

At 041500 UTC, Tropical Depression over the South China Sea with central pressure 1000 hectopascals was centred within 90 nautical miles of one six point one degrees north (16.1 N) one one zero point six degrees east (110.6 E) and is forecast to move north slowly for the next 24 hours.

Maximum winds near the centre are estimated to be 25 knots.

Radius of over 2 metre waves 90 nautical miles.

They incorporate additional information derived from surface and upper-air data and may therefore be slightly different from the real-time satellite or radar-based positions given in the hourly bulletins for public.

While the forecast positions and track indicate the most likely future path of the tropical cyclone, they may deviate from the actual path taken by the storm.
