Tropical Cyclone Warnings

Bulletin issued at 06:45 HKT 06/Jun/2018

Tropical Cyclone Warning Bulletin

Here is the latest Tropical Cyclone Warning Bulletin issued by the Hong Kong Observatory.

The Standby Signal, No. 1 is in force.

At 7 a.m., the tropical depression over the northern part of the South China Sea was estimated to be about 420 kilometres west-southwest of Hong Kong (near 20.6 degrees north 110.6 degrees east) and is forecast to be slow-moving.

The tropical depression is lingering in the vicinity of Leizhou Peninsula. Under the influence of upper-air steering flow, the future development and movement of the tropical depression will be erratic with high uncertainty.

Unless the tropical depression intensifies significantly or takes a more eastward track closer to Hong Kong, the chance to issue the Strong Wind Signal, No.3 during the day today will not be high. The Observatory will continue to closely monitor the movement of the tropical depression.

Rainbands associated with the tropical depression will continue to bring showers and squalls to Hong Kong.

(Precautionary Announcements with No. 1 Signal)

1. Precautions should be taken. Drains should be cleared of obstructions, and windows and doors should be checked.

2. There may be swells, you are advised to stay away from the shoreline.

3. People planning to visit Guangdong, Macau, outlying islands or remote parts of Hong Kong should note that changes in weather may affect your trips.

4. Listen to radio, watch TV or browse the Hong Kong Observatorys website and mobile app for latest information on the tropical cyclone.

  2. Temporal variations are generally caused by changes in meteorological conditions such as rainfall, wind and barometric pressure.
  3. Spatial variations are generally caused by differences in the radioactive content of local rock and soil.
  4. The data displayed is provisional. Only limited data validation has been carried out.
