Here is the latest weather bulletin issued by the Hong Kong Observatory.

The squally showers associated with Tropical Cyclone Ewiniar affected the south China coast today. Locally, it was cloudy with heavy squally showers and thunderstorms. More than 50 millimetres of rainfall were recorded in most parts of the territory. The squally showers associated with Ewiniar will still affect the south China coast tomorrow.

Weather forecast for Hong Kong (Friday, 8 Jun 2018)

Fresh to strong southeasterly winds. Cloudy with squally showers and thunderstorms. Showers will be heavy at times. Temperatures will range between 26 and 29 degrees. There will be swells.

Outlook : Still a few showers over the weekend.

    Weather Situation:
    At 11 p.m., Tropical Storm Ewiniar with maximum sustained winds of about 75 kilometres per hour near its centre was located at 21.7 degrees north, 111.9 degrees east. It is forecast to move north or north-northeast slowly, lingering over western Guangdong.

    Tropical Cyclone Warning Bulletin

    Here is the latest Tropical Cyclone Warning Bulletin issued by the Hong Kong Observatory.

    The Strong Wind Signal, No. 3 is in force.

    This means that winds with mean speeds of 41 to 62 kilometres per hour are expected.

    At 11 p.m., Tropical Storm Ewiniar was estimated to be about 240 kilometres west-southwest of Hong Kong (near 21.7 degrees north 111.9 degrees east) and is forecast to move north or north-northeast slowly, lingering over western Guangdong.

    In the past few hours, local winds strengthened with strong winds offshore and on high ground. The Strong Wind Signal, No. 3 is expected to remain in force for some time.

    The rainbands associated with Ewiniar will bring squalls and heavy showers to the vicinity of the Pearl River Estuary.

    The Observatory will take into account the variation of local wind strength to consider changing the tropical cyclone warning signal on Friday. The public is advised to take note of the latest weather information before leaving home on Friday morning.

    In the past hour, the maximum sustained winds recorded at Tap Mun, Tate's Cairn and Cheung Chau were 55, 53 and 45 kilometres per hour respectively.

    1. Drains should be cleared of leaves and rubbish. People in low-lying areas should take precautions against flooding.

    2. Please take precautions now. Make sure objects likely to be blown away are securely fastened or taken indoors. Check if all windows and doors can be securely locked.

    3. Seas are rough and there are swells, you are advised to stay away from the shoreline and low-lying areas, and not to engage in water sports.

    4. Avoid staying in areas exposed to high winds. Drivers using highways and flyovers should be alert to violent gusts.

    5. Listen to radio, watch TV or browse the Hong Kong Observatorys website and mobile app for the latest information on the tropical cyclone.

    Tropical Cyclone Warning

    At 071200 UTC, Tropical Storm Ewiniar (1804) with central pressure 990 hectopascals was centred within 60 nautical miles of two one point six degrees north (21.6 N) one one one point nine degrees east (111.9 E) and is forecast to move north or north-northeast slowly for the next 24 hours.

    Maximum winds near the centre are estimated to be 40 knots.

    Radius of over 33 knot winds 30 nautical miles.
    Radius of over 2 metre waves 150 nautical miles.

    Two three point zero degrees north (23.0 N)
    One one one point nine degrees east (111.9 E)
    Maximum winds 30 knots.

    The Hong Kong Observatory's tropical cyclone warnings for shipping are issued about one and a half hours after the time of observation. They incorporate additional information derived from surface and upper-air data and may therefore be slightly different from the real-time satellite or radar-based positions given in the hourly bulletins for public.

    While the forecast positions and track indicate the most likely future path of the tropical cyclone, they may deviate from the actual path taken by the storm.
