Tropical Cyclone Warnings

Bulletin issued at 16:45 HKT 08/Jun/2018

Tropical Cyclone Warning Bulletin

Here is the latest Tropical Cyclone Warning Bulletin issued by the Hong Kong Observatory.

The Standby Signal, No. 1 is in force.

At 5 p.m., Tropical Depression Ewiniar was estimated to be about 210 kilometres northwest of Hong Kong (near 23.4 degrees north 112.5 degrees east) and is forecast to move north or north-northeast slowly towards the inland areas of Guangdong and continue to weaken.

In the past few hours, local winds were weakening and rain was easing off. However, occasional strong winds are still expected to prevail over offshore waters and on high ground at first. There will also be swells. Members of the public are advised to stay away from the shoreline.

When local winds weaken further, the Observatory will cancel all tropical cyclone warning signals.

(Precautionary Announcements with No. 1 Signal)

1. Listen to radio, watch TV or browse the Hong Kong Observatorys website and mobile app for latest information on the tropical cyclone.

Bulletin issued at 15:30 HKT 08/Jun/2018

Tropical Cyclone Warning

Tropical Storm Ewiniar (1804) has weakened into a Tropical Depression with central pressure 998 hectopascals. At 080600 UTC, it was centred within 90 nautical miles of two three point one degrees north (23.1 N) one one two point four degrees east (112.4 E) and is forecast to move north or north-northeast slowly for the next 24 hours.

Maximum winds near the centre are estimated to be 30 knots.

Radius of over 2 metre waves 90 nautical miles.

Forecast position and intensity at 090600 UTC
Dissipated over land.

The Hong Kong Observatory's tropical cyclone warnings for shipping are issued about one and a half hours after the time of observation. They incorporate additional information derived from surface and upper-air data and may therefore be slightly different from the real-time satellite or radar-based positions given in the hourly bulletins for public.

While the forecast positions and track indicate the most likely future path of the tropical cyclone, they may deviate from the actual path taken by the storm.
