At noon at the Hong Kong Observatory the air temperature was 28 degrees Celsius and the relative humidity 76 per cent.
During the past hour the mean UV Index recorded at King's Park was 2. The intensity of UV radiation was low.

The area of low pressure over the northeastern part of the South China Sea has intensified into a tropical depression. It is expected to move northeastwards towards Taiwan and away from Hong Kong. It will not pose direct threat to Hong Kong. Despite this, the trough of low pressure over the northern part of the South China Sea will remain rather active in the next couple of days. The Observatory will continue to closely monitor the situation.

Here is the latest weather bulletin issued by the Hong Kong Observatory.

The cloud band covering the coast of Guangdong is thinning out gradually.

An area of low pressure over the northeastern part of the South China Sea has intensified into a tropical depression. At noon, the tropical depression was centred about 240 kilometres southwest of Tainan. It is forecast to move northeast at about 15 kilometres per hour towards Taiwan.

Weather forecast for this afternoon and tonight

Mainly cloudy. Sunny intervals in the afternoon. Light to moderate northerly winds.

Outlook : Sunny intervals in the next couple of days. There will also be one or two showers.

    Warnings:
    Gale force winds in Nan'ao and Shanwei. Strong winds in Hong Kong adjacent waters, south of Hong Kong and Shangchuan Dao.

    Weather Situation:
    The area of low pressure over the northeastern part of the South China Sea has intensified into a tropical depression. At noon, the tropical depression with maximum sustained winds of about 45 kilometres per hour near its centre was located near 21.6 degrees north, 118.5 degrees east. It is forecast to move northeast at about 15 kilometres per hour towards Taiwan.

    Northeast force 4 to 5, occasionally force 6.
    Isolated showers and thunderstorms.
    Moderate to rough seas.

    Nan'ao and Shanwei:

    Tropical Cyclone Warning

    An area of low pressure over the northeastern part of South China Sea has intensified into a Tropical Depression with central pressure 994 hectopascals. At 140300 UTC, it was centred within 90 nautical miles of two one point five degrees north (21.5 N) one one eight point four degrees east (118.4 E) and is forecast to move northeast at about 8 knots for the next 24 hours.

    Maximum winds near the centre are estimated to be 25 knots.

    Radius of over 2 metre waves 90 nautical miles.

    Forecast position and intensity at 150300 UTC
    Two four point zero degrees north (24.0 N)
    One two one point six degrees east (121.6 E)
    Maximum winds 35 knots.

    Forecast position and intensity at 160300 UTC
    Become extratropical low.



    The Hong Kong Observatory's tropical cyclone warnings for shipping are issued about one and a half hours after the time of observation. They incorporate additional information derived from surface and upper-air data and may therefore be slightly different from the real-time satellite or radar-based positions given in the hourly bulletins for public.

    While the forecast positions and track indicate the most likely future path of the tropical cyclone, they may deviate from the actual path taken by the storm.
