Here is the latest weather bulletin issued by the Hong Kong Observatory.

A broad trough of low pressure is bringing unsettled weather to the northern part of the South China Sea.

An area of low pressure over the northeastern part of the South China Sea has intensified into a tropical depression. At noon, the tropical depression was centred about 240 kilometres southwest of Tainan. It is forecast to move northeast at about 15 kilometres per hour towards Taiwan.

Weather forecast for this afternoon and tonight

Mainly cloudy with isolated showers. Sunny intervals in the afternoon. Light to moderate northerly winds.

Outlook : Sunny intervals in the next couple of days. There will also be one or two showers.

    Warnings:
    Gale force winds in Nan'ao and Shanwei. Strong winds in Hong Kong adjacent waters, south of Hong Kong and Shangchuan Dao.

    Weather Situation:
    The area of low pressure over the northeastern part of the South China Sea has intensified into a tropical depression. At noon, the tropical depression with maximum sustained winds of about 45 kilometres per hour near its centre was located near 21.6 degrees north, 118.5 degrees east. It is forecast to move northeast at about 15 kilometres per hour towards Taiwan.

    Isolated showers and thunderstorms.
    Moderate to rough seas.

    Tropical Cyclone Warning

    At 140600 UTC, Tropical Depression over the northeastern part of South China Sea with central pressure 994 hectopascals was centred within 90 nautical miles of two one point seven degrees north (21.7 N) one one eight point eight degrees east (118.8 E) and is forecast to move northeast at about 14 knots for the next 24 hours.

    Maximum winds near the centre are estimated to be 25 knots.

    Radius of over 2 metre waves 90 nautical miles.

    Forecast position and intensity at 150600 UTC
    Two five point seven degrees north (25.7 N)
    One two four point five degrees east (124.5 E)
    Maximum winds 35 knots.

    Forecast position and intensity at 160600 UTC
    Become extratropical low.



    The Hong Kong Observatory's tropical cyclone warnings for shipping are issued about one and a half hours after the time of observation. They incorporate additional information derived from surface and upper-air data and may therefore be slightly different from the real-time satellite or radar-based positions given in the hourly bulletins for public.

    While the forecast positions and track indicate the most likely future path of the tropical cyclone, they may deviate from the actual path taken by the storm.
