At 11 a.m. at the Hong Kong Observatory the air temperature was 30 degrees Celsius and the relative humidity 78 per cent.
During the past hour the mean UV Index recorded at King's Park was 5. The intensity of UV radiation was moderate.

An area of intense thundery showers is approaching from the southwest, and may start to affect Hong Kong in the next couple of hours. Members of the public should be on the alert.

Gusts reaching 70 kilometres per hour or above may continue to affect Hong Kong.

The Thunderstorm Warning has been issued. It will remain effective until 2:00 p.m. today. A few squally thunderstorms are expected to occur over Hong Kong.

Here is the latest weather bulletin issued by the Hong Kong Observatory.

The area of thundery showers associated with the southwest monsoon is moving towards the vicinity of the Pearl River Estuary.

Severe Tropical Storm Prapiroon has intensified into a typhoon. At 10 a.m., Prapiroon was centred about 170 kilometres north-northwest of Okinawa. It is forecast to move north at about 25 kilometres per hour across the East China Sea.

Weather forecast for today

Mainly cloudy with occasional showers and isolated thunderstorms. Moderate southwesterly winds, fresh at times.

Outlook : Showers and isolated thunderstorms in the next couple of days. Sunny periods in the middle and latter parts of this week.

Weather Situation:
A southwesterly airstream is affecting the south China coastal waters.

Severe Tropical Storm Prapiroon has intensified into a typhoon. At 9 a.m., Prapiroon with maximum sustained winds of about 120 kilometres per hour near its centre was located at 27.4 degrees north, 127.0 degrees east. It is forecast to move north at about 25 kilometres per hour across the East China Sea.

Moderate to rough seas.

Nan'ao, Shanwei and South of Hong Kong:
