Here is the latest weather bulletin issued by the Hong Kong Observatory.

The subsiding air in the outer circulation of Tropical Cyclone Maria is bringing generally fine and very hot weather to Guangdong. Locally, temperatures over many places rose to 33 degrees or above in the afternoon.

Typhoon Maria has weakened into a severe tropical storm. At 4 p.m., Maria was centred about 140 kilometres west-northwest of Fuzhou. It is forecast to move west-northwest at about 25 kilometres per hour across inland Fujian and weaken.

Weather forecast for tonight and tomorrow

Mainly fine. Hot during the day tomorrow. Becoming cloudy with a few showers later. Temperatures will range between 27 and 32 degrees. Light winds, becoming moderate south to southeasterly winds.

Outlook : Squally showers and thunderstorms in the following couple of days.

    Weather Situation:
    A broad area of low pressure is bringing unsettled weather to the south China coastal waters.

    Typhoon Maria has weakened into a severe tropical storm. At 4 p.m., Maria with maximum sustained winds of about 90 kilometres per hour near its centre was located near 26.7 degrees north, 118.1 degrees east. It is forecast to move west-northwest at about 25 kilometres per hour across inland Fujian and weaken.

    Hong Kong Adjacent Waters:
    South to southeast force 3 to 4, occasionally force 5.
    A few showers later.
    Slight to moderate seas.

    Nan'ao:
    South to southwest force 6 to 7.
    Scattered squally showers and thunderstorms.

    Isolated showers and thunderstorms.
    Moderate to rough seas.

    Tropical Cyclone Warning

    Typhoon Maria (1808) has weakened into a Severe Tropical Storm with central pressure 980 hectopascals. At 110600 UTC, it was centred within 90 nautical miles of two six point four degrees north (26.4 N) one one eight point three degrees east (118.3 E) and is forecast to move west-northwest at about 14 knots for the next 24 hours.

    Maximum winds near the centre are estimated to be 55 knots.

    Radius of over 33 knot winds 120 nautical miles.
    Radius of over 47 knot winds 60 nautical miles.
    Radius of over 2 metre waves 240 nautical miles.

    Dissipated over land.



    The Hong Kong Observatory's tropical cyclone warnings for shipping are issued about one and a half hours after the time of observation. They incorporate additional information derived from surface and upper-air data and may therefore be slightly different from the real-time satellite or radar-based positions given in the hourly bulletins for public.

    While the forecast positions and track indicate the most likely future path of the tropical cyclone, they may deviate from the actual path taken by the storm.
