Here is the latest weather bulletin issued by the Hong Kong Observatory.

A ridge of high pressure brought a strong easterly airstream to the coast of Guangdong yesterday. Locally, the weather was mainly cloudy with a few showers at first. There were sunny periods during the day. Besides, the area of low pressure near Luzon intensified into a tropical depression yesterday afternoon. It is expected to move westwards across the northern part of the South China Sea rapidly and towards the vicinity of western Guangdong and Hainan Island today.

At 11 p.m. last night, the tropical depression near Luzon was centred about 490 kilometres north-northeast of Manila. It is forecast to move west at about 38 kilometres per hour across the vicinity of Luzon Strait and enter the South China Sea.

Weather forecast for Hong Kong

Mainly cloudy with sunny intervals and isolated showers. More showers later. Temperatures will range between 26 and 31 degrees. Moderate to fresh easterly winds, strengthening gradually later. There will be swells.

Outlook : Showers on Wednesday and winds will moderate later. Sunny intervals and a few showers in the following couple of days.

At 11 p.m., the tropical depression near Luzon with maximum sustained winds of about 45 kilometres per hour near its centre was located at 18.8 degrees north, 122.0 degrees east. It is forecast to move west at about 38 kilometres per hour across the vicinity of Luzon Strait and enter the South China Sea.

Tropical Cyclone Warning

At 161500 UTC, Tropical Depression near Luzon with central pressure 998 hectopascals was centred within 90 nautical miles of one eight point eight degrees north (18.8 N) one two one point eight degrees east (121.8 E) and is forecast to move west at about 20 knots for the next 24 hours.

Maximum winds near the centre are estimated to be 25 knots.

Radius of over 2 metre waves 180 nautical miles.
