    Weather Situation:
    At 4 p.m., Tropical Storm Son-Tinh with maximum sustained winds of about 65 kilometres per hour near its centre was located near 19.3 degrees north, 114.8 degrees east. It is forecast to move west at about 40 kilometres per hour across the northern part of the South China Sea and towards the vicinity of Hainan Island.

    Tropical Cyclone Warning Bulletin

    Here is the latest Tropical Cyclone Warning Bulletin issued by the Hong Kong Observatory.

    The Strong Wind Signal, No. 3 is in force.

    This means that winds with mean speeds of 41 to 62 kilometres per hour are expected.

    At 5 p.m., Tropical Storm Son-Tinh was estimated to be about 340 kilometres south of Hong Kong (near 19.3 degrees north 114.6 degrees east) and is forecast to move west at about 40 kilometres per hour across the northern part of the South China Sea and towards the vicinity of Hainan Island.

    Son-Tinh will be closest to Hong Kong in the next few hours, skirting about 300 kilometres to the south of the territory. With local winds turning to the east, winds are expected to strengthen gradually. Based on the current forecast track, the chance of issuing the Gale or Storm Signal, No. 8 is rather low.

    Under the influence of the outer rain bands of Son-Tinh, there will be occasional squally showers in Hong Kong tonight and tomorrow morning. As seas are high and there are swells, members of the public are advised to stay away from the shoreline and not to engage in water sports.

    1. Please complete precautions as soon as possible. Make sure objects likely to be blown away are securely fastened or taken indoors. Check if all windows and doors can be securely locked.

    2. Drains should be cleared of leaves and rubbish. People in low-lying areas should take precautions against flooding.

    3. Construction and property management practitioners should make sure that overhanging facilities and temporary structures outdoors are securely fastened or placed on the ground, and complete precautionary measures as soon as possible.

    4. Small vessel owners should now complete all safety arrangements and return to nearby typhoon shelters.

    5. Listen to radio, watch TV or browse the Hong Kong Observatorys website and mobile app for the latest information on the tropical cyclone.

    Tropical Cyclone Warning

    At 170600 UTC, Tropical Storm Son-Tinh (1809) with central pressure 992 hectopascals was centred within 90 nautical miles of one nine point three degrees north (19.3 N) one one five point four degrees east (115.4 E) and is forecast to move west at about 22 knots for the next 24 hours.

    Maximum winds near the centre are estimated to be 35 knots.

    Radius of over 33 knot winds 30 nautical miles.
    Radius of over 2 metre waves 180 nautical miles over northern semicircle, 120 nautical miles elsewhere.

    The Hong Kong Observatory's tropical cyclone warnings for shipping are issued about one and a half hours after the time of observation. They incorporate additional information derived from surface and upper-air data and may therefore be slightly different from the real-time satellite or radar-based positions given in the hourly bulletins for public.

    While the forecast positions and track indicate the most likely future path of the tropical cyclone, they may deviate from the actual path taken by the storm.
