Here is the latest weather bulletin issued by the Hong Kong Observatory.

A ridge of high pressure is bringing a strong easterly airstream to the coast of Guangdong.

At 10 a.m., Tropical Storm Son-Tinh was centred about 680 kilometres southwest of Hong Kong. It is forecast to move west at about 30 kilometres per hour across Hainan Island and Beibu Wan. Besides, an area of low pressure to the east of the Philippines is intensifying. A tropical cyclone appears to be forming.

Weather forecast for today

Mainly cloudy with a few showers and isolated thunderstorms. Sunny intervals in the afternoon. Fresh easterly winds, strong offshore and on high ground at first. There will be swells.

Outlook : Sunny periods and a few showers in the next couple of days.

    Weather Situation:
    An easterly airstream is affecting the south China coastal waters.

    At 10 a.m., Tropical Storm Son-Tinh with maximum sustained winds of about 65 kilometres per hour near its centre was located near 18.7 degrees north, 108.9 degrees east. It is forecast to move west at about 30 kilometres per hour across Hainan Island and Beibu Wan.

    Here is the latest Tropical Cyclone Warning Bulletin issued by the Hong Kong Observatory.

    All signals were cancelled at 9:40 a.m.

    At 10 a.m., Tropical Storm Son-Tinh was centred about 680 kilometres southwest of Hong Kong (near 18.7 degrees north 108.9 degrees east) and is forecast to move west at about 30 kilometres per hour across Hainan Island and Beibu Wan.

    Locally, there will still be strong winds offshore and on high ground at first. There will also be swells. The public should stay on the alert.

    Tropical Cyclone Warning

    At 180000 UTC, Tropical Storm Son-Tinh (1809) with central pressure 994 hectopascals was centred within 60 nautical miles of one eight point eight degrees north (18.8 N) one zero nine point five degrees east (109.5 E) and is forecast to move west at about 16 knots for the next 24 hours.

    Maximum winds near the centre are estimated to be 35 knots.

    Radius of over 33 knot winds 60 nautical miles over northern semicircle, 30 nautical miles elsewhere.
    Radius of over 2 metre waves 180 nautical miles over northern semicircle, 120 nautical miles elsewhere.

    One nine point one degrees north (19.1 N)
    One zero four point six degrees east (104.6 E)
    Maximum winds 35 knots.

    Dissipated over land.



    The Hong Kong Observatory's tropical cyclone warnings for shipping are issued about one and a half hours after the time of observation. They incorporate additional information derived from surface and upper-air data and may therefore be slightly different from the real-time satellite or radar-based positions given in the hourly bulletins for public.

    While the forecast positions and track indicate the most likely future path of the tropical cyclone, they may deviate from the actual path taken by the storm.
