Bulletin issued at 06:30 HKT 19/Jul/2018

Tropical Cyclone Warning

At 182100 UTC, Tropical Storm Son-Tinh (1809) with central pressure 994 hectopascals was centred within 60 nautical miles of one nine point two degrees north (19.2 N) one zero four point seven degrees east (104.7 E) and is forecast to move west-northwest at about 8 knots for the next 24 hours.

Maximum winds near the centre are estimated to be 35 knots.

Radius of over 33 knot winds 30 nautical miles.
Radius of over 2 metre waves 120 nautical miles.

No further warnings on this Tropical Storm will be issued by the Hong Kong Observatory unless it re-enters the Hong Kong area of responsibility.

The Hong Kong Observatory's tropical cyclone warnings for shipping are issued about one and a half hours after the time of observation. They incorporate additional information derived from surface and upper-air data and may therefore be slightly different from the real-time satellite or radar-based positions given in the hourly bulletins for public.

While the forecast positions and track indicate the most likely future path of the tropical cyclone, they may deviate from the actual path taken by the storm.

  2. Temporal variations are generally caused by changes in meteorological conditions such as rainfall, wind and barometric pressure.
  3. Spatial variations are generally caused by differences in the radioactive content of local rock and soil.
  4. The data displayed is provisional. Only limited data validation has been carried out.
