Here is the latest weather bulletin issued by the Hong Kong Observatory.

A broad trough of low pressure brought showers to the coast of Guangdong and the northern part of the South China Sea yesterday. Locally, there were sunny periods and a few showers. More than 5 millimetres of rainfall were recorded over most parts of the territory. The subsiding air associated with Tropical Cyclone Ampil is expected to bring very hot weather to southeastern China today and tomorrow.

Ampil intensified from a tropical storm into a severe tropical storm yesterday. At 11 p.m. last night, Ampil was centred about 260 kilometres southeast of Okinawa. It is forecast to move northwest at about 25 kilometres per hour towards the vicinity of the Ryukyu Islands.

Weather forecast for Hong Kong (Saturday, 21 Jul 2018)

Mainly cloudy with isolated showers. The minimum temperature will be about 27 degrees. Very hot with sunny periods during the day. The maximum temperature will be around 33 degrees. Light to moderate easterly winds.

Outlook : Very hot and mainly fine with isolated showers on Sunday. More showers in the following couple of days.

Weather information for south China coastal waters issued by the Hong Kong Observatory at 11:30 p.m. on 20 July 2018

Warnings:
Strong winds in Nan'ao and Shanwei.

Weather Situation:
An area of low pressure over the central and northern parts of the South China Sea is bringing unsettled weather to the south China coastal waters.

At 11 p.m., Severe Tropical Storm Ampil with maximum sustained winds of about 90 kilometres per hour near its centre was located near 24.8 degrees north, 129.8 degrees east. It is forecast to move northwest at about 25 kilometres per hour towards the vicinity of the Ryukyu Islands.

Area forecasts for the next 24 hours

Hong Kong Adjacent Waters:
East to northeast force 4, becoming west to southwest force 4 later.
Isolated showers and thunderstorms.
Moderate seas.

Nan'ao and Shanwei:
East to northeast force 4 to 5, occasionally force 6.
Isolated showers and thunderstorms.
Moderate to rough seas.

South of Hong Kong and Shangchuan Dao:
East to northeast force 4 to 5, becoming west to southwest force 4 to 5 later.
Isolated showers and thunderstorms.
