Here is the latest weather bulletin issued by the Hong Kong Observatory.

Showers are affecting western Guangdong and the northern part of the South China Sea.

At 2 a.m., the tropical depression over Hainan Island was centred about 150 kilometres west-southwest of Haikou. It is forecast to move northeast slowly and linger over the vicinity of Beibu Wan and the coast of western Hainan Island. Meanwhile, the tropical depression to the east of Taiwan was centred about 210 kilometres east-southeast of Taibei. It is forecast to move north at about 20 kilometres per hour across the seas east of Taiwan. Tropical Cyclone Ampil was centred about 190 kilometres northeast of Nanjing. It is forecast to move northwest at about 20 kilometres per hour across the vicinity of Jiangsu.

Weather forecast for today

Mainly cloudy with a few showers. More showers and a few squally thunderstorms during the day. Temperatures will range between 26 and 30 degrees. Moderate southerly winds, occasionally fresh offshore.

Outlook : A few showers in the following couple of days.

Strong winds in south of Hong Kong and Shangchuan Dao.

Weather Situation:
At 3 a.m., the tropical depression over Hainan Island with maximum sustained winds of about 55 kilometres per hour near its centre was located at 19.3 degrees north, 109.1 degrees east. It is forecast to move northeast slowly and linger over the vicinity of Beibu Wan and the coast of western Hainan Island. Meanwhile, the tropical depression to the east of Taiwan with maximum sustained winds of about 55 kilometres per hour near its centre was located at 24.6 degrees north, 123.4 degrees east. It is forecast to move north at about 20 kilometres per hour across the seas east of Taiwan.

     AT 11 P.M. LAST NIGHT, THE TROPICAL DEPRESSION
     OVER GULF OF TONKIN WAS CENTRED NEAR 19.3
     DEGREES NORTH, 109.0 DEGREES EAST.  IT IS
     FORECAST TO MOVE NORTHEAST SLOWLY AND LINGER
     OVER THE VICINITY OF BEIBU WAN AND THE COAST OF
     WESTERN HAINAN ISLAND.
     MEANWHILE, THE TROPICAL DEPRESSION TO THE EAST
     OF TAIWAN WAS CENTRED NEAR 24.1 DEGREES NORTH,
     123.6 DEGREES EAST.  IT IS FORECAST TO MOVE
     NORTH AT ABOUT 10 KNOTS ACROSS THE SEAS EAST OF TAIWAN.

Tropical Cyclone Warning

At 221800 UTC,the tropical depression over the Gulf of Tonkin with central pressure 996 hectopascals was centred within 60 nautical miles of one nine point three degrees north (19.3 N) one zero nine point one degrees east (109.1 E) and is forecast to move northeast slowly for the next 24 hours.

Maximum winds near the centre are estimated to be 30 knots.

Radius of over 2 metre waves 90 nautical miles.

Forecast position and intensity at 231800 UTC
Two one point one degrees north (21.1 N)
One one zero point zero degrees east (110.0 E)
Maximum winds 30 knots.

Forecast position and intensity at 241800 UTC
Two two point six degrees north (22.6 N)

Tropical Cyclone Warning

At 221800 UTC, the tropical depression to the east of Taiwan with central pressure 998 hectopascals was centred within 90 nautical miles of two four point five degrees north (24.5 N) one two three point five degrees east (123.5 E) and is forecast to move north at about 10 knots for the next 24 hours.

Maximum winds near the centre are estimated to be 30 knots.

Radius of over 2 metre waves 120 nautical miles over eastern semicircle, 60 nautical miles elsewhere.

Forecast position and intensity at 231800 UTC
Dissipated over sea.




The Hong Kong Observatory's tropical cyclone warnings for shipping are issued about one and a half hours after the time of observation. They incorporate additional information derived from surface and upper-air data and may therefore be slightly different from the real-time satellite or radar-based positions given in the hourly bulletins for public.

While the forecast positions and track indicate the most likely future path of the tropical cyclone, they may deviate from the actual path taken by the storm.
