Here is the latest weather bulletin issued by the Hong Kong Observatory.

Showers are affecting the coast of Guangdong and the northern part of the South China Sea.

At 8 a.m., the tropical depression over Hainan Island was centred about 90 kilometres west-southwest of Haikou. It is forecast to move northeast slowly in the general direction of Leizhou Peninsula. Meanwhile, the tropical depression to the east of Taiwan was centred about 220 kilometres east-northeast of Taibei. It is forecast to move north-northwest at about 22 kilometres per hour towards the East China Seas. Tropical Storm Ampil was centred about 250 kilometres north of Nanjing. It is forecast to move northwest at about 20 kilometres per hour across the vicinity of Jiangsu.

Weather forecast for today

Sunny intervals and occasional showers. The maximum temperature will be around 30 degrees. A few squally thunderstorms later. Moderate southerly winds, occasionally fresh offshore.

Outlook : A few showers in the next couple of days.

    Strong winds in south of Hong Kong and Shangchuan Dao.

    Weather Situation:
    At 9 a.m., the tropical depression near Hainan Island with maximum sustained winds of about 55 kilometres per hour near its centre was located near 20.1 degrees north, 109.9 degrees east. It is forecast to move north slowly across Leishou Peninsula in the general direction of Guangxi. Meanwhile, the tropical depression to the east of Taiwan with maximum sustained winds of about 55 kilometres per hour near its centre was located near 26.3 degrees north, 123.2 degrees east. It is forecast to move north-northwest at about 22 kilometres per hour towards the East China Seas.

II.  SYNOPSIS OF THE WEATHER SITUATION :
     SHOWERS ARE AFFECTING GUANGDONG AND THE NORTHERN
     PART OF THE SOUTH CHINA SEA.
     AT 11 P.M. LAST NIGHT, THE TROPICAL DEPRESSION
     OVER GULF OF TONKIN WAS CENTRED NEAR 19.3
     DEGREES NORTH, 109.0 DEGREES EAST.  IT IS
     FORECAST TO MOVE NORTHEAST SLOWLY AND LINGER
     OVER THE VICINITY OF BEIBU WAN AND THE COAST OF
     WESTERN HAINAN ISLAND.
     MEANWHILE, THE TROPICAL DEPRESSION TO THE EAST
     OF TAIWAN WAS CENTRED NEAR 24.1 DEGREES NORTH,
     123.6 DEGREES EAST.  IT IS FORECAST TO MOVE
     NORTH AT ABOUT 10 KNOTS ACROSS THE SEAS EAST OF TAIWAN.

    Tropical Cyclone Warning

    At 230000 UTC, the tropical depression near Hainan Island with central pressure 994 hectopascals was centred within 60 nautical miles of one nine point nine degrees north (19.9 N) one zero nine point eight degrees east (109.8 E) and is forecast to move north slowly for the next 24 hours.

    Maximum winds near the centre are estimated to be 30 knots.

    Radius of over 2 metre waves 90 nautical miles.

    Two one point five degrees north (21.5 N)
    One zero nine point eight degrees east (109.8 E)
    Maximum winds 30 knots.

    Tropical Cyclone Warning

    At 230000 UTC, the tropical depression east of Taiwan with central pressure 998 hectopascals was centred within 90 nautical miles of two six point zero degrees north (26.0 N) one two three point four degrees east (123.4 E) and is forecast to move north-northwest at about 12 knots for the next 12 hours.

    Maximum winds near the centre are estimated to be 25 knots.

    Radius of over 2 metre waves 120 nautical miles over eastern semicircle, 60 nautical miles elsewhere.

    Forecast position and intensity at 231200 UTC
    Dissipated over sea.



    The Hong Kong Observatory's tropical cyclone warnings for shipping are issued about one and a half hours after the time of observation. They incorporate additional information derived from surface and upper-air data and may therefore be slightly different from the real-time satellite or radar-based positions given in the hourly bulletins for public.

    While the forecast positions and track indicate the most likely future path of the tropical cyclone, they may deviate from the actual path taken by the storm.
