Here is the latest weather bulletin issued by the Hong Kong Observatory.

Showers and thunderstorms affected Guangdong and the northern part of the South China Sea today. Locally, it was mainly cloudy with squally showers and thunderstorms. More than 20 millimetres of rainfall were recorded over most parts of the territory. The tropical depression near Hainan Island moved northeast across Leizhou Peninsula. A broad trough of low pressure is expected to affect the northern part of the South China Sea midweek this week.

Besides, the tropical depression near Taiwan weakened into an area of low pressure over the East China Sea today.

Weather forecast for Hong Kong (Tuesday, 24 Jul 2018)

Mainly cloudy with squally showers and a few thunderstorms. Temperatures will range between 26 and 30 degrees. Fresh south to southeasterly winds, occasionally strong offshore and on high ground at first. Winds will moderate gradually during the day.

Outlook : Still a few showers and isolated thunderstorms on Wednesday. Showers easing off with sunny periods towards the weekend.

    Weather Situation:
    At 11 p.m., the tropical depression near Leizhou Peninsula with maximum sustained winds of about 55 kilometres per hour near its centre was located near 21.1 degrees north, 110.2 degrees east. It is forecast to move north slowly in the general direction of Guangxi.

    Tropical Cyclone Warning Bulletin

    Here is the latest Tropical Cyclone Warning Bulletin issued by the Hong Kong Observatory.

    The Standby Signal, No. 1 is in force.

    This means that a tropical cyclone now centred within about 800 kilometres of Hong Kong may affect us.

    At 11 p.m., the tropical depression near Leizhou Peninsula was estimated to be about 430 kilometres west-southwest of Hong Kong (near 21.1 degrees north 110.2 degrees east) and is forecast to move north slowly in the general direction of Guangxi.

    The tropical depression was slow-moving in the past few hours. Local winds were occasionally strong offshore and on high ground. According to the present forecast track, the tropical depression will gradually depart from Hong Kong on Tuesday morning. When its threat to Hong Kong diminishes, the Observatory will cancel the Standby Signal, No. 1.

    Tropical Cyclone Warning

    At 231200 UTC, the tropical depression near Leizhou Peninsula with central pressure 992 hectopascals was centred within 60 nautical miles of two one point one degrees north (21.1 N) one one zero point one degrees east (110.1 E) and is forecast to move north slowly for the next 24 hours.

    Maximum winds near the centre are estimated to be 30 knots.

    Radius of over 2 metre waves 150 nautical miles.

    One zero eight point eight degrees east (108.8 E)
    Maximum winds 25 knots.

    Tropical Cyclone Warning

    The tropical depression near Taiwan has weakened into an area of low pressure with central pressure 1002 hectopascals. At 230300 UTC, it was centred within 90 nautical miles of two six point six degrees north (26.6 N) one two three point three degrees east (123.3 E).

    Maximum winds near the centre are estimated to be 20 knots.

    No further warnings on this area of low pressure will be issued by the Hong Kong Observatory unless regeneration takes place.



    The Hong Kong Observatory's tropical cyclone warnings for shipping are issued about one and a half hours after the time of observation. They incorporate additional information derived from surface and upper-air data and may therefore be slightly different from the real-time satellite or radar-based positions given in the hourly bulletins for public.

    While the forecast positions and track indicate the most likely future path of the tropical cyclone, they may deviate from the actual path taken by the storm.
