Weather Information for South China Coastal Waters
Bulletin issued at 12:02 HKT 09/Aug/2018
At noon at the Hong Kong Observatory the air temperature was 33 degrees Celsius and the relative humidity 63 per cent.
During the past hour the mean UV Index recorded at King's Park was 10. The intensity of UV radiation was very high.
The broad area of low pressure now over the central part of the South China Sea has relatively loose structure and weak convection near its centre. However, the winds at its periphery are rather strong. Depending on whether Hong Kong would be affected by strong wind today, the Observatory will consider issuing the strong monsoon signal.
The area of low pressure is expected to edge gradually towards the vicinity of the coast of western Guangdong to Hainan Island in the next few days. The local weather will become unsettled with showers and squally thunderstorms. The Observatory will closely monitor the future movement of the area of low pressure. Members of the public should be on the alert.
Please be reminded that:
The Very Hot Weather Warning is now in force. Very hot weather might cause adverse health effects. Members of the public should take care to avoid heatstroke.
