Here is the latest weather bulletin issued by the Hong Kong Observatory.

Under the influence of the outer rainbands associated with the tropical depression over the northern part of the South China Sea, locally it was mainly cloudy with occasional squally showers and thunderstorms yesterday. More than 40 millimetres of rainfall were recorded over many places, and rainfall even exceeded 50 millimetres over Hong Kong Island, Tseung Kwan O and Lantau Island. The tropical depression is expected to linger around the seas off the coast of western Guangdong today and tomorrow, and will bring squally showers and thunderstorms to the coast of Guangdong.

Weather forecast for Hong Kong (Saturday, 11 Aug 2018)

Cloudy with occasional squally showers and thunderstorms. Temperatures will range between 26 and 30 degrees. Moderate to fresh east to southeasterly winds, occasionally strong offshore and on high ground.

Outlook : There will be occasional squally showers and thunderstorms in the following couple of days.

Weather Situation:
At 11 p.m., the tropical depression over the northern part of the South China Sea with maximum sustained winds of about 45 kilometres per hour near its centre was located near 20.4 degrees north, 111.4 degrees east. It is forecast to move northeast or north-northeast slowly, lingering around the seas off the coast of western Guangdong.

Tropical Cyclone Warning Bulletin

Here is the latest Tropical Cyclone Warning Bulletin issued by the Hong Kong Observatory.

The Standby Signal, No. 1 is in force.

This means that a tropical cyclone now centred within about 800 kilometres of Hong Kong may affect us.

At midnight, the tropical depression over the northern part of the South China Sea was estimated to be about 350 kilometres southwest of Hong Kong (near 20.5 degrees north 111.4 degrees east) and is forecast to move northeast or north-northeast slowly, lingering around the seas off the coast of western Guangdong.

Tropical Cyclone Warning

At 101500 UTC, the tropical depression over the northern part of South China Sea with central pressure 996 hectopascals was centred within 90 nautical miles of two zero point four degrees north (20.4 N) one one one point four degrees east (111.4 E) and is forecast to move northeast or north-northeast slowly for the next 24 hours.

Maximum winds near the centre are estimated to be 25 knots.

Radius of over 2 metre waves 90 nautical miles.

The Hong Kong Observatory's tropical cyclone warnings for shipping are issued about one and a half hours after the time of observation. They incorporate additional information derived from surface and upper-air data and may therefore be slightly different from the real-time satellite or radar-based positions given in the hourly bulletins for public.

While the forecast positions and track indicate the most likely future path of the tropical cyclone, they may deviate from the actual path taken by the storm.
