Here is the latest weather bulletin issued by the Hong Kong Observatory.

The tropical depression over the coast of western Guangdong brought squally showers and thunderstorms to the region and the northern part of the South China Sea yesterday. Locally, it was cloudy with squally showers and thunderstorms. Showers were heavier in the morning. More than 30 millimetres of rainfall were recorded over most parts of the territory, and even exceeded 100 millimetres over Kwai Tsing District, Tsuen Wan District and Sham Shui Po District. The tropical depression will continue to linger over the coast of western Guangdong today and move towards the vicinity of Leizhou Peninsula early this week.

Weather forecast for Hong Kong (Sunday, 12 Aug 2018)

Cloudy with occasional squally showers and a few thunderstorms. Temperatures will range between 26 and 29 degrees. Moderate to fresh east to southeasterly winds, occasionally strong offshore and on high ground.

Outlook : There will still be showers and thunderstorms in the following couple of days.

    Weather information for south China coastal waters issued by the Hong Kong Observatory at 11:30 p.m. on 11 August 2018

    Warnings:
    Gale force winds in Shangchuan Dao. Strong winds in Hong Kong adjacent waters, Nan'ao, Shanwei and south of Hong Kong.

    Weather Situation:
    At 11 p.m., the tropical depression over the coast of western Guangdong with maximum sustained winds of about 55 kilometres per hour near its centre was located near 21.5 degrees north, 111.3 degrees east. It is forecast to move slowly, lingering over the coast of western Guangdong. Meanwhile, Tropical Storm Yagi with maximum sustained winds of about 65 kilometres per hour near its centre was located near 25.4 degrees north, 126.4 degrees east. It is forecast to move northwest at about 25 kilometres per hour across the East China Sea.

    Tropical Cyclone Warning Bulletin

    Here is the latest Tropical Cyclone Warning Bulletin issued by the Hong Kong Observatory.

    The Standby Signal, No. 1 is in force.

    This means that a tropical cyclone now centred within about 800 kilometres of Hong Kong may affect us.

    At midnight, the tropical depression over the coast of western Guangdong was estimated to be about 320 kilometres west-southwest of Hong Kong (near 21.5 degrees north 111.2 degrees east) and is forecast to move slowly, lingering over the coast of western Guangdong.

    Tropical Cyclone Warning

    At 111500 UTC, the tropical depression over the coast of western Guangdong with central pressure 994 hectopascals was centred within 60 nautical miles of two one point five degrees north (21.5 N) one one one point two degrees east (111.2 E) and is forecast to be slow moving for the next 24 hours.

    Maximum winds near the centre are estimated to be 30 knots.

    Radius of over 2 metre waves 120 nautical miles.

    The Hong Kong Observatory's tropical cyclone warnings for shipping are issued about one and a half hours after the time of observation. They incorporate additional information derived from surface and upper-air data and may therefore be slightly different from the real-time satellite or radar-based positions given in the hourly bulletins for public.

    While the forecast positions and track indicate the most likely future path of the tropical cyclone, they may deviate from the actual path taken by the storm.
