Here is the latest weather bulletin issued by the Hong Kong Observatory.

The tropical depression over the northern part of the South China Sea intensified into a tropical storm and brought heavy squally showers and thunderstorms to the region yesterday. Locally, it was cloudy with occasional heavy squally showers and thunderstorms. More than 40 millimetres of rainfall were recorded over most parts of the territory, and rainfall even exceeded 70 millimetres over Tai Po and Sha Tin. The tropical cyclone will continue to bring heavy squally showers and thunderstorms to the northern part of the South China Sea today and tomorrow.

Weather forecast for Hong Kong (Monday, 13 Aug 2018)

Mainly cloudy with occasional squally showers. A few thunderstorms later. Temperatures will range between 26 and 29 degrees. Moderate to fresh east to southeasterly winds, occasionally strong offshore and on high ground. There will be swells.

Outlook : There will still be squally showers and thunderstorms in the following couple of days.

Weather information for south China coastal waters issued by the Hong Kong Observatory at 11:30 p.m. on 12 August 2018

Warnings:
Gale force winds in south of Hong Kong and Shangchuan Dao. Strong winds in Hong Kong adjacent waters, Nan'ao and Shanwei.

Weather Situation:
At 11 p.m., the tropical storm over the northern part of the South China Sea with maximum sustained winds of about 65 kilometres per hour near its centre was located near 20.5 degrees north, 112.4 degrees east. It is forecast to move slowly, lingering around the seas off the coast of western Guangdong. Meanwhile, Tropical Storm Yagi with maximum sustained winds of about 85 kilometres per hour near its centre was located near 28.0 degrees north, 121.3 degrees east. It is forecast to move northwest at about 34 kilometres per hour across Zhejian.

Tropical Cyclone Warning Bulletin

Here is the latest Tropical Cyclone Warning Bulletin issued by the Hong Kong Observatory.

The Standby Signal, No. 1 is in force.

This means that a tropical cyclone now centred within about 800 kilometres of Hong Kong may affect us.

At midnight, the tropical storm over the northern part of the South China Sea was estimated to be about 260 kilometres southwest of Hong Kong (near 20.5 degrees north 112.5 degrees east) and is forecast to move slowly, lingering around the seas off the coast of western Guangdong.

Tropical Cyclone Warning

At 121500 UTC, Tropical Storm Yagi (1814) with central pressure 988 hectopascals was centred within 30 nautical miles of two eight point three degrees north (28.3 N) one two one point three degrees east (121.3 E) and is forecast to move northwest at about 18 knots for the next 24 hours.

Maximum winds near the centre are estimated to be 45 knots.

Radius of over 33 knot winds 60 nautical miles.
Radius of over 2 metre waves 270 nautical miles.

Three three point six degrees north (33.6 N)
One one six point one degrees east (116.1 E)
Maximum winds 25 knots.

Tropical Cyclone Warning

At 121500 UTC, the tropical storm over the northern part of South China Sea with central pressure 990 hectopascals was centred within 60 nautical miles of two zero point five degrees north (20.5 N) one one two point four degrees east (112.4 E) and is forecast to be slow moving for the next 24 hours.

Maximum winds near the centre are estimated to be 35 knots.

Radius of over 33 knot winds 30 nautical miles.
Radius of over 2 metre waves 90 nautical miles.

They incorporate additional information derived from surface and upper-air data and may therefore be slightly different from the real-time satellite or radar-based positions given in the hourly bulletins for public.

While the forecast positions and track indicate the most likely future path of the tropical cyclone, they may deviate from the actual path taken by the storm.
